I just had the most amazing Saturday of my life. Here's the story. It started off early Saturday morning as my hiking partner and I set off from Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone National Park. We drove an hour and a half to reach our trail head at the Yellowstone Picnic grounds (on the NE entrance road just over the bridge from Roosevelt Junction). After a tough up hill climb we reached the top of the canyon wall and continued along the trail towards Specimen Ridge. This is an amazing hike. You… Continue

I have never done seasonal work. I am looking for a server psoition and I have no idea where to start or what to expect. My sister and I decided it would be a great way for us to spend quality time together but I am a bit overwhelmed. I am wondering about lodging and how to get around if I don't have a vehicle. If they require you to work alot of hours and how "in touch with nature" I will be. I want to make sure there are alot of comforts of home IE: running water, electricity, no hiking in… Continue

Only a few days left and my employment agreement will be fulfilled....I will have done my part and DNC theirs. What remains is all the memories of great times, high adventures, new friends, strange people and ideas, humorous moments, and all the many wonders that is Yellowstone. I will do a wrap up blog later, but for now I am just swimming in all the emotions that boil up at the end of a season in a place like this. I am ready to go home and see my wife, children, and grandchildren .... I have… Continue

I haven't written since the first time I signed up but finally have revisited the site.
My best seasonal job in the last couple of years has been caring for horses when the ranch owners have to travel.
The photo on this site currently is a picture of myself with one of those horses. I can't wait to do the work again. My next stint is in November.

Hello everyone. How is everyone doing? I thought I would enter a picture of a nice cooling place called Lake Tahoe. Is anyone getting ready for the upcomming snow season yet? Is anyone going to jobfairs for ski resorts and getting ready? If not better start getting ready. Here is an an enticing picture of Lake Tahoe, for those of us who have been there. Hope you enjoy and are getting ready. Please write back and let me know what you… Continue

So I have been doing seasonal work for over a year now! Hard to believe. I am back in Cooper Landing, I just could not miss out on the fishing. I was working in Denali for a month in a half the beginning of summer, but it just wasn't the place for me. Too touristy, I like the small towns of Alaska where everyone knows everybody. That's where I feel like I fit in.
Winter plans...Girdwood. I am pretty excited about it. I'm living with two friends I met last summer at Gwin's. We have an… Continue

I haven't been around these parts in quite a while - alas, I haven't been to any parks or "great places" this year as I had some health issues (nothing serious but had to have surgery.) Maybe next year!
I imagine some of you may already know about this but just in case I thought I'd post about something I got via e-mail today in care of the National Park's Foundation website. It seems Ken Burns, the guy who has created award winning documentaries about various topics in American… Continue

I am going to Glacier NP from the 9th to the 16th of September. Looking for someone to share vehicle cost with and possibly meals. Camping in a tent- if interested would need to sleep in own tent.
Am a photographer and like to savor hikes - for photographic purposes. In other words, "slow hiker". I don't do altitude well, so no cliff walks, but will swim in lakes even if full of ice.
Flying in to Kalispell the 9th and out the 16th. Probably will do a night in a motel first… Continue
