B Bar Ranch...YUCK!

They cram eight of you in a small four bedroom house. There cheap! 8.25 an hour and they had me doing everything from chasing cattle through a swamp where there were moose w/young, Logging, Moving a one hundred year old cabin........the list goes on! I was hired for guest services to boot.....ktchn/server/housekeeper. They also call themselves a "non profit" ranch. We saw a check for 70,000 for a group of 25 that stayed less then two weeks. This is the only ranch that I have ever heard of…

THE OLD

Age is a difficult concept. There's no proper defination of what is"old",but in societies where a person's status and livelihood is commonly defined by work, retirement often marks a key turning point. In the west, although retirement is usually betwen the ages of 70 and 73.This imperative to african nations, particularly Kenya where the goverment pegged it to 60(5yrs ago).

In that regard; state pension, private savings and better health is quite encouraging. In Africa the aged must continue to… Continue

Home again...

After 3800 miles and five days of driving, I'm home again in Texas after spending a season working in Ketchikan, AK.  I must say, my job was fabalous - I do have reservations concerning my employer, however, I will just leave it at that.  I loved driving my coach over the 32 miles of paved highway and leading tours in two different places.  The guests were great!  Amazing how many new friends you can make in such a short time.

On one of my tours, there was a older gentleman with his…

Denali Wrap Up ... another amazing summer

It is just a few days now before I leave Alaska, perhaps for the last time.  It's made me reflect on all the experiences I've enjoyed over the summer.  I asked myself, "Self.....did you make the right choice?" in coming to Alaska, and specifically Denali National Park.  When I think back over all that has happened this summer I am certain I did make the right decision.  Alaska is a tough, hard, rugged place at it's core.  Come visit it as young as you can ... as it takes extreme exercise and…

Number 15 Completed and It's On to the 16th

This morning I completed my summer season at Alaska Wildland Adventures at their Kenai Riverside Lodge in Cooper Landing.  It was another fantastic season and flew by a bit too quickly.  It was my second season there as the Lead Breakfast Chef, the same as I had last year.  I was going to write a "Day in the Life" blog...but realized it was almost the same as last year's: 2012's…
