Home For Awhile

Just a quick little blog.

Between jobs I usually make a stop to see my mother.  She's 87 and for the most part healthy.  But this stop I felt she was looking like she's slowing down.  Compared to many her age, she's probably doing much better, so there might not be much to my concern.

For two weeks I was having communication problems with the employer that I was looking at spending the winter season.  That's not the greatest sign, and most of seasonal work is gut feeling...both…

Winter work for non skiers.

I am currently looking for winter work somewhere in New Mexico, Colorado, Montana , California or the North West. It seems like most of the ski jobs I've applied for have pretty low wages and housing can be quite expensive. It is to my belief that the reason for this is because of the free skipass/lift ticket. Does anyone know of any places that offer decent wages and decent room and board throughout the winter? I'm an experienced cook and I am looking for work in the culinary field. Any…

Posh, swift taxis new attraction at TIA, Nepal

Passengers travelling from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) can now have a new experience as the old and rickety airport cabs are being replaced with new luxury taxis. Around 200 new vehicles are set to replace the 170 aged taxis, within the next month in the first phase of the airport transport service improvement plan.

According to the Air Passengers Transport Service Management Limited (APTSML) responsible for upgrading the taxis, ten new vehicles have already received…

A Month in the Life: Work Exchange Program at Concordia Eco Resort

For a couple of years now I have been looking at the Employment Opportunities page of Maho Bay Camps. I had heard about them through meeting a few people here and in the life.  They had an interesting Work Exchange Program listed. The program was also happening at their sister resort, Concordia Eco Resort. For a month, either beginning to end or mid to mid, you agree to work 4-hours for each day....a 30-day stay means 120 hours. The program runs from the beginning of June until mid-November.…

Appreciating Hot Water

Now that I'm back in Colorado I've had a few days to begin reflecting on my Alaska experience.  Something really amazing has occurred to me that I really did not see coming.  After spending the last four months without easy access to hot water, toilets, dishwashers, TV's and many other modern conveniences I have begun to notice just how convenient our lives have become in today's society. Folks we live like Kings and Queens.  No.....we live BETTER than Kings and Queens did a few hundred…
