Kari Quaas A reflection on the summer of 2009

As the true end of summer approaches, I want to reflect on what a great summer this has been. The weather in Seattle could not have been better, except that perhaps a bit more rain would have been nice! Funny, I know. Also, I got to do fair amount of traveling, and therefore, met and spent time with some incredible people. Here are a few highlights of the summer of 2009 for me. Continue

jenn Alaska Summer of '09

So I am heading up to Alaska in May. I am going to be working my second season at The Mckinley Village Lodge or as Blasi would put it "Were all the cool people work" as the AM Lead cook. I am super excited because this year we will be getting a new building, restaurant and bar, coffee corner, retail shop and kitchen. Everything points to a great season. Which also means fun times like a lot more Bonfires by the River, late night beer runs into town, crazy nights at the Salmon Bake, tons of hikes… Continue

Kari Quaas Thoughts on the Summer and the Impending Fall

As Labor Day weekend approaches, I get that sinking feeling that summer is over and winter is just around the corner. I know that really we've still got a few more weeks of summer before the equinox, and there is always the possibility of an Indian summer, but I can feel it in the air. Change is a-comin'. Last year, it seems that we were everywhere, lots of travel, maybe too much, but we had a lot of fun. Perhaps that's why this year we're taking it easy and staying closer to home. It could als… Continue

Kari Quaas Jobs in Antarctica and other exotic places

I know that Terry, a long-time My CoolWorks member has worked down at the south pole, but I am wondering if anyone else has. We get excited at CoolWorks.com when we see these types of jobs come down the pike. Not to say that jobs at Yellowstone or Mt. Rainier aren't wonderful, but for some reason, jobsContinue

Kari Quaas 900 and counting!

Hey All, I am proud to say that we have crested 900 members (904 to be exact) and I cannot believe that it was just March 13th when I posted another blog that said we had reached 700. Lea Grand Canyon

I missed the photo contest! I've been really busy with work, school and some freelance stuff and I just forgot to upload my pictures here. Oh well. I'll be going to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon this summer - I was going to go to Alaska but a family member has had some serious health problems and I decided I needed to be within driving distance if - Heaven forbid - something major happens and I need to come home. Hopefully that won't happen but better safe than sorry. In any case I'm lookin… Continue

Kari Quaas What If...?

It's that time of the year when many decisions are made and "what ifs" are front and center. I am starting to see a lot of action on this network regarding questions from job seekers about whether or not they are making the right choice for the summer of 2008. Have I chosen the right summer job? Will I hate it? Will I love it? Which location is better? Is anyone else going there too? AM I MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE? I've been around the block long enough to know that no one wants to make a b… Continue
