A few weeks ago, I got to attend my 6th SHRA conference in Gardiner, Montana. In attendance were four of the five Cool Works team, around 10 International Agency representatives and 25 HR managers from the national parks. It was a fantastic group of people.

I was researching a website for a cross-country bike trip and came across this web-page with suggestions for working while on the road. It fits in with seasonal work, so I thought I would share it. Cheers :0) http://www.bravenewtraveler.com/2008/07/28/25-ways-to-earn-money-when-youre-broke-on-the-road/ Continue

I love having Tony's videos on the front page of our site, but they do take up a bit of space and time to load, so I think I'll be separating them out as blog posts going forward. Tony Farley has a great appreciation for… Continue
The current economic recession is giving some clues on how employees can best deal with future downturns.
I do have this penchant for making business plans. It’s my safety net. Some people that do seasonal work year round have the option of going home for awhile if things don’t quite work out. I do not have that option available. If I have problems, I’ll soon find myself among the ranks of the homeless. A plan in place is not quite a security blanket...it still has a lot of holes. So I’m always… Continue
I'm not sure if any of you are following the blog written by a few of our members, Ted and Cory, who are spending their summer working up at Coldfoot Camp in the Arctic, but you should.

Worth a read - Copied from the NY Times
POINT PLEASANT, N.J. — As the unemployment rate climbed this spring, thousands of recently laid-off workers descended upon the resort communities along the Jersey Shore looking for summer work, hoping for an infusion of cash and a brief respite from job hunting.
But for many of the applicants who are older and have extensive résumés, finding work along the boardwalk can be as elusive as winning one of those deceptively easy-looking ring toss games.

This article seems to support what many of you were saying when I asked if it seems like more or less people are vacationing this year. Yay! I hope that this continues to be the case over the course of the whole summer.

Just a quick post. Last night at the baseball game someone asked how I learned how to do the job I do now. I didn't have a quick answer because lots of what I do didn't exist when I graduated from college..... in ...... 1994. I guess I just learned by doing and adapting. Isn't that how life is?
I suppose people skills were fairly important too. : )
