HELP! Winter at Old Faithful?

Need some advice from anyone who has wintered at Old Faithful. I put in for a winter position here at Yellowstone and it is looking like I am going to get stuck at Old Faithful. I REALLY wanted to be here at Mammoth but those positions are very few and very very hard to get.

Being trapped at OF for the winter already has me paranoid. No way in, no way out. No vehicle.

I don't ski or snowshoe. I wanted the winter position for the chance to go out to Lamar and view the wildlife.…

Mammoth Happiness!

LOVE this location! Being in Mammoth Hot Springs is just better all around. Except for playing musical parking spaces and dodge elk lol.

Much happier in the Assistant F&B Manager position- using me as a dining room host when I have 30 some odd yrs of experience and two degrees in the field was sort of like using a chainsaw to cut a toothpick!

The Lamar Valley is always hopping with some kind of wild life and have been on a couple of hikes in the park. Going to get my back…

Lake Disappoinment

So far I am very disappointed with the Lake Yellowstone location. Sure it is pretty- but once you have driven around and walked around - that's it. There is absolutely nothing to do. Well, unless you want to go get drunk at the employee pub. Most of the employee rec activities take place M- F- so those of us who drew Sat and Sun off are shit out of luck.

No wildlife here. There was a report of a grizzly wandering through one night- but we did not get to see it. A few bears if you…

Packing- Too Much?

I am getting paranoid about how much I have packed! Been reading over the blog posts from others and it doesn't seem like I am that far out of line- but seems many can get everything in a duffel and backpack. I have a footlocker and some of the recyclable grocery bags. Any hints and comments will be greatly appreciated.

In the footlocker I have packed-

Beach towel

Swim suit

5 short sleeve t-shirts

2 long sleeve t-shirts

1 Long sleeve…

30 day Countdown has Begun!

In 30 days I will be checking in at Gardiner. 25 days til I hit the road! Got the new battery for my computer today and my foot locker should arrive tomorrow- which means I can start packing! I've already gotten all my camping gear out and cleaned up- except the tent. We had a few nice days here, but now we are back to cold, rainy late winter type weather. I do have to get that tent out and set up- make sure it doesn't need any repairs, count the stakes and check the seams and guy…

Letters to Congress

I am beyond annoyed with our supposed representatives in D.C. They need to get to work- for we, the people. This is the letter I sent to both my Senators and my Congressman this morning.

Dear Senator,

This whole sequestration matter is ridiculous. I am sure there are thousands of ways to cut the budget without affecting services to our veterans and certainly without delaying the opening of the summer season for our National…
