Sunni's Stuff

I cracked up laughing when Aggie told me that a bunch of people were on here during this last Monday Night Chat...and were all wondering about my stuff. I guess I must have mentioned to many times about how I had to declutter my room, and how I was weeding things out and giving stuff away to my neighbors.

I remember how Aggie had made a list of stuff that he was taking to Mesa Verde with him...and we all jumped in with our opinions of that :) and by the time he was done there, even…

90 Days To Go

I noticed that my managers already have the request book out for 2012. This is the book where we write in our vacation time or if we just want to take a day off to go on a Rec Center trip or have any doctor visits planned or for whatever we just want a personal day off. Well when I realized that the new book was out I immediately wrote in my "Last Day of Work", which will be Sunday, March 25th.This gives me a few days to hike and maybe go visit a friend that moved to Prescott,AZ before I fly…

Dream Job: Living "VS" Existing

A few years ago, I was working in the kitchen of the cafeteria here at GCSR. I would come in early and help the breakfast cook prep everything he needed for the day and do his back-up. And I did that on my own time...which means I went into the cafeteria a few hours early every morning WITHOUT getting paid. It was sooo early that no manager was around to stop me from working off-the-clock.

I had even written a blog on another site about it...stating that it didn't matter what your job…

Planning for 2012

As of March 2012, I will have been at GCSR (Grand Canyon South Rim) for 5 years, which means I will get 3 weeks of paid vacation time. I guess it seems like I have been 'stuck in a rut' lately and its probably because of being in a place for so long; because hey let's face it...this is the longest I have stayed in 1 spot for a very very long time.

What's the difference between a grave & a rut? Nothing, just depends on how deep you dig the hole.

So anyways, I am hoping to… Continue

I sorta overheard yesterday about a position opening up in the library of the Park Headquarters in GCSR. The job won't be available until August 22nd. So today I asked them for an application.

Free Housing in big historical home

$75/week for about 32 hours of work in a library (me in a room full of books & a computer...HaHaHaHaHa~heaven)

Now I have volunteered at libraries years ago (before internet came out to the public); but even with that experience, I…

Hope u all have a great Summer

Once the bags are packed, a lot of decisions have already been made. The night before, you had to think through what to pack and what to leave behind. The morning of departure, you check again and again for the essentials: passport, wallet, journal, tickets, camera.

Your itinerary, chosen from among countless options, is at least partially settled by now. You’re going to _____, and as far as you’re concerned, all of _____ is waiting for you.

The road ahead may not be easy, but…

GCSR~Bucket List

ok, someone else here @ GCSR just made their bucket list a couple days ago with things that she wants to do at the Grand Canyon before she leaves the park in I figured "hey that's a good idea--seeing as there are things I still have not done."

Helicopter ride

Jeep tour

Smooth River Raft Trip

Hike Hermits trail (at least part of it)

Hike South Kaibab trail

Camp at Phantom Ranch

Housing cost

Yesterday was my last payday for 2010. My housing cost gets deducted from each paycheck.

Even though we get paid every 2 weeks, business was slow and I got sent home early I only worked 43.26 hours. My rent for those 2 weeks was only $17.30.

Why was my rent only $17.30?? Because I only have to pay 0.40 for every hour I work, with the most it goes up to is $32 per pay-period.

For the whole year of 2010, my housing cost was only $614.12. Now when I told my son…

Goals for 2011

In case I fall asleep again and miss the next Monday night chat, like I did last week....LOL

Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn this vision of the future into reality.

Now I was never very good with New Year Resolutions...oh I can make them, but I also break them a month later.

Which is why I used to tell people that it was better to make 12 resolutions~1 for every…

my criteria for job locations

First I would like to thank everyone who has helped me with ideas on places to work in Alaska.

I want a place with water, mountains & wildlife. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for housing & food...course maybe living at GCSR has spoiled me in that area.

I want to have fun co-workers to explore a location with & also save up $$$.

Locations on my bucket list:

Grand Tetons

Olympic Park…

Starting my Alaska folder

I have been daydreaming about going to Alaska for awhile. Usually I check out pictures here on coolworks & different job sites but always whimp-out about sending in the job applications.

Well right now I am on a sorta LOA at GCSR for the next 2 weeks....while I have the time off, I am totally cleaning out my room. Decluttering at its best. By the time I get done, I figure it won't be so difficult to travel

up to Alaska.

I am making a physical folder…

3-day weekend

Well business was sloooow yesterday, so I was sent home early. I was already scheduled to have 3 days off (Monday-Wednesday). It's that time of year where its the "calm before the storm"....hopefully we will get busy for Labor Day weekend, otherwise someone will be getting sent home early again.

But while we are slow it is easy to get extra days off, so I'm taking the shuttle bus down to Flagstaff for a couple days and stay at the hostel there. 1 bad thing about not having a car is… Continue

Payday & a raise review

Payday is every other Wednesday, so last payday was 7-28-2010.

I worked 72.52 hours @ 7.73/hr

The state of NH garnishes my check for $162.88 and after Rent, all the taxes and everything gets taken out of my check. I finally got a check for $297.82.

I also finally got my yearly review and will be getting a .14 raise starting with my next paycheck...Xanterra is going back to 6-21-2010 to pay me the raise. So from now on I will get $7.87/hr. May not sound like alot…
