My Recent summer!

Well Befor the summer of 09 started I was very excited to actually be going back to the North Rim, and granted it is an awsome place to see, but once the season got rolling it just went down hill from there. Almost the entire season just did not feel right and there are several folks that worked the 08 season also that will testify to this. It was not exactly something you can put your finger on and say exactly what was odd and wrong but it was out there and it lasted untill the day I said no mo… Continue

Grand Canyon may be titled one of the seven natural wonders, but those photo's you posted of Yellowstone made me homesick. Sorry peeps you can call the Grand canyon heaven, but for me there is no comparison. take me home to Yellowstone!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, don't know if it has gotten out yet but there was a guy who pulled a Thelma and Louise off the South Rim about 2 days ago. Very sad! Don't have any other info on it other then it happened. Continue

Greetings from the Grand Canyon North Rim.

Today is a very good day. I traded days off with another employee and so far I started out my day getting a great shot of a Condor that's decided to hang out at the Lodge back dock. She has been there for I guess about 3 days and unfortunately since she won't take the initiative to scram and forage on her own there going to have to trap her and relocate her. I have been back up here at the North Rim since the 8th and so far it seems like there is going to be a nicer season this time around. We h… Continue

Dog travel arrangement problem solved

I've been worried about my dog for a while now and finally got the problem solved. My mother and I took a trial run out to the airport and it didn't go so well. Well I called today to finalize the plane trip for my dog and then asked a neighbor if they could take me and the dog to the shipping place that I would pay them and they said yes. Amen. I can now calm down. All paperwork is in order, shots health flight certificate obtained and all we need is a airline travel kit which cost 5 dollars. T… Continue

NR-Grand Canyon check in day.

There seemed to be a lot of confusions with this recent chat we had so I thought I would clarify what go's on for the North Rim folks. When you arrive you will go into the EDR and to your left after you walk into the dinning area. against the far wall is the HR. You'll go in there and pick up your paperwork. No the paperwork is not all that long actually. It will take you all of maybe 5 to 10 minutes to fill out. Turn the papers into the HR and they will pull your file and assign you to your roo… Continue

Most Dangerous CITY, why I am glad I left

Well just going through news reports and just recently seen a report stating the most dangerous violent city in the US is currently my home state of Michigan. That would of course be the city of Detroit. For years I have had run ins over this stupid fact with people bragging that there so tuff and peeps from there city would kick a$$ on Detroit. Like its anything to be proud of?????? This is the reason I am glad that I left and yeah maybe go back for a visit to family one day but never live near… Continue

Final days!

Just thought I would add a final blog before these long winter days come to an end and the summer begins.I have gone through a lot of emotions these last few months from excited to feeling blah. Sick of of going through everything to anxious about what to pack, what to ship out and what to leave behind. These next couple weeks are the hardest to deal with. I have felt so on edge at times and tried to just stay calm, but there are days it just doesn't happen. I suppose once this part is ov… Continue

'Pickled' baby mammoth opens window to Ice Age

A baby mammoth dubbed Lyuba had her brief life cut short in a swamp 40,000 years ago, but the well-preserved specimen will provide the world a window into the extinct creatures from the Ice Age. REPORTER Q&A: Read Dan Vergano's answers to your questions Discovered in 2007, the 1-month-old mammoth died suddenly, probably trapped in mud. "She was doing great, very healthy," says paleontologist Dan Fisher of the University of Michigan, part of the international team researching Lyuba. "She ju… Continue

Earth Hour 2009

I participated in earth hour 2009 and wow was it dark in this house, but I was sad to see that most of this neighborhood didn't partake. It's kinda sad to realize that in this day and age there is a whole lot of folks that just don't care. They don't realize the impact until it's too late and then there the first ones to complain, panic, get crazy when it all go's wrong.None the less for all those peeps out there that don't get involved those few of us that do, make up for it in volumes. Seasonal.

Been doing a lot of reading on here and thinking/contemplating. I remember when I first started in the seasonal world, I was told be very careful, it takes all types in these places and some are less then desirable. Over the years I have been witness to a vast variety of people ranging not only in different ages but temperaments, character, mental stability and plane ole common sense. I still wonder at quite a number of people who walk through the gates of those parks and just think pathetic. Of… Continue

My journey over the years!

It's really hard to believe it's been actually over 10 years since that first seasonal Job I started wayyyy back in 99 at Yellowstone. I remember when I got that first message I was so excited yet so scared and in shock really not believing I actually did it, I actually filled out for a job way off some place that I have no idea about, and no idea why I even did it in the first place. I don't even recall how I started. The only part I remember is that I got the mail took it to my room and opened… Continue

Mt St Helens

I just watched one of those video's on the parks and it got me looking deep into my past. In a way it's very very sad and scary to think about and for some to even remember. I was a young kid the year That volcano blew and I lived about 200 miles from her. I recall the day she decided to let us all know that she was there and waiting to unleash the horrors and hell down on us. To this day when I see pic's and video's of her looking so calm and at peace, I just get the chills all through my body.… Continue

More on my current activity.

Wow did the 08 season fly bye. It seams like just recent I was getting ready to head out to the North Rim-Grand Canyon. Now look, season is over and already looking for next summer. I sent some more apps in yesterday or at least request to have them mailed to me. The one I am really anxious for is with Delaware North for the General stores in of course YELLOWSTONE! I also put in for back at the North rim. The south rim sent an email to me today saying they can't offer a job at this time because… Continue

Change of Plans.

Well, I am back from my most recent adventure, the North Rim. Just a few days ago I put in two apps, one for the South Rim, and then back to my beloved Yellowstone. As of yesterday, there has been a change of plans. I should get ahold of both and tell them cancel. I re enrolled in a college I graduated from in 95. I actually attended a different campus back then. But yesterday I went down there to retake this test for enterence into the Medical Lab tec. Only to find out I got my days mixed up. I… Continue

North Rim

Just thaught I would update. typing from Grand Canyon North Rim. It's been interesting. Company has a long ways yet to really get it figured out after taking over from Xanterra. None the less the North Rim is up and running and like all the other places the tourist are in with there many eccentricities. I have 5 months or so to go and thinking of going over to the South Rim once this ends, but.........I am still yearning for my Yellowstone. Like the old saying for the Marines, once a Marine.....… Continue

A new Beginning

I am telling myself to not compare this park to Yellowstone. With a whole new adventure ahead of me I am looking forward to this summer. New park, new job, New state. In just a few short weeks I will be in a wonderous local that I am sure is breath taking. And the best part is unlike years past, no greyhound bus to have to get there. I live right in the same state several hours away and my family has decided to make a mini vacation of it so there going to drive me all the way to the north gatContinue

Very Sad!

I was turned down for employment for the 2008 summer season in Yellowstone, so once again I'll be seeing from afar. Those of you that are there or heading there please keep up to date on the park for me. I look forward to hearing about all the adventures.

boaring summer

See when I am not in Yellowstone, I am board stiff. This summer stinks. Tried going back to the park but Xanterra turned me down. I left early last summer because I had to clear up some leagle financial stuff but Breaking contract is all they seen so I couldn't go back and I am going insane. I am not one to work indoors much that gets me very unsatisfied even if its in a job I like. It just isn't the park. I was working at the new Walmarts here but I got sick and they let me go because I didn

Final leg of the Journey

OLD FAITHFUL- Summer 2006. I finally made it out of Grant Village, Yeahhhhhhh! Orrigionally they had me in Lupine Dorm and that was ok, but I soon moved to what is known as the retirement dorm and actually liked it.I worked in the housekeeping department as a houseperson for the Lodge. When they talk about the onslaught of people comming to see the "old girl"erupt, aka "geyser rush" they weren't sh@#$ about it, lol! There was times it would be so bad and so over bea
