A few weeks ago, I got to attend my 6th SHRA conference in Gardiner, Montana. In attendance were four of the five Cool Works team, around 10 International Agency representatives and 25 HR managers from the national parks. It was a fantastic group of people.

We're always up to something new. The latestst and greatest is that we are now dabbling in podcasts using BlogTalkRadio. Our first podcast featured Tina Brudzinski, Human Resources Manager, at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. She was as gracious as ever and a perfect guest. She answered generic questions about working for a ski resort and also told us a bit about
What are three things I discovered in San Francisco? It's very Johnny Carson's Carnac the Magnificent. : ) I snuck away for the second half of last week to visit my second cousin, Andreas, who lives near Berlin, Germany, and his family, in San Francisco. I was pleased as punch that my first cousin, Julie, also joined me for the lovely three day trip. As one first cousin of my father said on our last visit to Germany in 2007, "Having these visits helps keeps the family young." I totally agree
I happened to catch this story on KUOW, the local Seattle NPR station, yesterday evening. I continue to be really excited to watch this series and hope that you are too. Perhaps you find the next park you want to work in next summer.
I just finished my first podcast with Tina Brudzinski of Crested Butte Mountain Resort where we discussed ski resort jobs both in general and specifically at Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado. If you're looking at working for a ski resort this winter or in the future, I recommend taking a listen. Tina p… Continue

As the true end of summer approaches, I want to reflect on what a great summer this has been. The weather in Seattle could not have been better, except that perhaps a bit more rain would have been nice! Funny, I know. Also, I got to do fair amount of traveling, and therefore, met and spent time with some incredible people. Here are a few highlights of the summer of 2009 for me.

That was my line over the last week. I'm better now. I'm heading out for vacation tomorrow and wanted to make my in-box as free as possible. I think I mostly succeeded. Thanks in advance to my Cool Works chums for picking up the slack while I go play, hopefully on a favorable wind. There will be lots of photos upon my return. Shocking, I know. : )
Enjoy the week leading up to Labor Day. It's always a strange time when the kidd… Continue

Just read this and liked it.
"People of character do the right thing, not because they think it will change the world but because they refuse to be changed by the world." (Michael Josephson)
The kids here at Washington Business Week are learning about business and ethics and being leaders. It takes a strong person to stand up for what he or she believes to be right. May we all follow our inner voices that tells us when we're doing right or wrong.
Thanks to Brian Kevin Johnston for posting it… Continue

Here is a wonderful interview of Bob Roney, a park ranger in Yosemite National Park, who is known as 'Yosemite Bob' on All Things Considered from NPR. He has been a ranger in Yosemite since 1968 and he enjoys recording the sounds of the woods.
(I wrote this post while sitting in my car waiting to leave the Hillary Clinton rally back on February 7, 2008. I just discovered it while attempting to organize my computer a bit better. Wish me luck!)
Wow. I just finished watching Hillary Clinton speak at a rally in Seattle, WA at Terminal 30, the Princess pier of all places. Met two cool guys, Jeff and Will, brothers who have been into politics most of their lives. Will actually caucused at 18 the first time a Clinton was elected to b… Continue

I love having Tony's videos on the front page of our site, but they do take up a bit of space and time to load, so I think I'll be separating them out as blog posts going forward. Tony Farley has a great appreciation for… Continue

Rather than looking for folks with established river skills, we are simply looking for physically fit men and women that learn quickly, aren’t afraid of hard work, are fun outgoing and people oriented, and have an eye for detail.
Nestled in the Brooks Mountain Range at mile 175 of the Dalton Highway, 260 miles north of Fairbanks. Hiring Interpretive guides, river guides & hospitality jobs near Gates of the Arctic National Park.
