It's a serious challenge to ramp up a seasonal operation from hibernation to full-combat mode every year. A huge part of that challenge is assembling a seasonal crew.
Hiring off of resumes doesn't quite cut it -- the seasonal world is fairly unique: Many of these employers are at the "end of the road" and so have to provide housing; seasonal operations have just a few months to pay the bills for the whole year; and there is a lot of planning and training that goes into staffing up from

We've been looking for a way to SHOW what these gigs are like for awhile. Text is a start. Photos are good. But video ought to be able to bring things to life a bit more.
Kathi just got back from a trip to Alaska and we sent along a shiny new video camera.
We have this idea of getting a "Gig Vid" theme going - where you folks doing the jobs out there show and tell about:
* where are you living and working
* what's your job
* what do you do with your time off…

Everything feels like it's at least a month ahead of the calendar down here in Gardiner and out in the park. But we heard there was still decent snow above Cooke City so we checked it out yesterday.
Cool and overcast for starters. Just into the North Entrance at Gardiner we saw a dozen Elk, one Pronghorn Antelope and maybe 30 bison in one eyefull. Got a pretty good look at a lone wolf between Mammoth and Tower. By the time we got out towards the Lamar Valley it was starting to clear up…
