Living & Working in Great Places

Now that the season is winding down, and all our newly made friends are heading back to college, Europe, or Texas, we have some extra bandwidth to play with. I've gotten used to No Internet (or only Town Day internet). I mean, really, I didnt come to Yellowstone to chat online. Still, I've missed the Cool Works networking, youtubbing, general surfing and such.

Now, with just 26 days left to go, and some incredible adventures under my belt, whats next? I've been challenged and rewarded by being an EDR manager (everyone knows your name, for better or worse!) Walking to work, avoiding Bison close encounters, watching doe and fawns from my dorm window, listening to elk and coyotes during the night, incredible views from mountains and meadows....could it get any better?

Xanterra has been really good to me. I recommend them to anyone looking for a seasonal or full time job.

Just a few words to say I'm still here, and loving it.

Thanks, Bill, I am told we can rent skiis here, or buy slightly used ones. I'm getting my layers ready, and prepared for 40 below.
I will be at Lake Lodge, Jason, which is down the road a bit, and on the opposite side from where I met you last visit, in the EDR. Let me know for sure which day, and I will meet you at a designated spot, I sure enjoyed your last visit.

Congrats Carol! I spent 5 winters at Old Faithful and 4 at Lake as a Winterkeeper back in the late 70's and early 80's. Yellowstone in the winter is pure magic. Find some cross country skis if you don't have them. The skiing is fantastic. See you out there!

Good for you Carol. You've found your bliss, for however temporary, and that's a good thing. I wish I could have stayed on at my summer job but it was truly seasonal. However, next summer they want me back at Standish-Hickey State Park in Mendocino County, CA--pot growing capital of the US. But I won't be growing pot and making big bucks. I will just be enjoying the amazingly gorgeous area and swimming in the river. Keep us posted. Jim

Yesterday I signed up for the winter season. I'll be working at the Gyser Grill at the Snow Lodge. Winter positions, I'm told and seeing the number of applicants turned down, are hard to come by. Managers usually end up in starter positions, just to stay here. I'm going to be snowed in for 3 months! Yeah :) Looking forward to lots of skiing to work, and all around the gysers too. So, Jim, yes, I am still here, and signed the papers to hang out with the hard core seasonals!

hey Carol, So you're staying on in the job? That's great. Wish I had that option where I was. There is next year, and I did make it through a tough but very rewarding season at a state park, so I have that experience to put in the resume. Take care, Jim

Hey Carol, glad to see you're still there and it was a successful season. We have a little longer to go here, but everyone is starting to anticipate the end. Some for good reasons, some just to get out. I know I'll miss the Canyon, stormy days, good days, smoky days, and especially the star filled nights. I'll miss the new friends, and hopefully keep some of them through the winter and beyond.

Congrats on your promotion. When did that happen?
