Living & Working in Great Places

Brandy Dunn

Thinking about winter at Grand Canyon South Rim? What do you think?

Anyone worked at the South Rim? Heard a few things about it and none were good. What do you think? I hope to hear some good things because I think it would be an awesome job!!!

good luck
4-6 wks puts you into late November though...

winter weather is variable...can be 20s-40s daytime but usually very windy...
snowfall anywhere from a few inches to several feet, also varies greatly depending on your location in the park

holidays can be busy, there are often winter hikers (as inner canyon is comfy at that time) but other wise it is very quiet until mid-March or even later

When I worked as a raft guide on the Big Pigeon River the parties were crazy, and we lived in tents and huts. If I can survive that I hope I can survive GCSR.

My husband and I are both looking for jobs there. I applied for the switch board and he applied for security and F&B. I called today and they said it would take 4-6 weeks to process the apps. Man I really hope we get it!

By the way what is winter like? Does it get really cold? Snow?

Thanks a LOT!

depends on where you get assigned, Brandy
are you going for retail? F & B? rooms/front desk?
I was w/Xanterra at south rim for 7 months in retail at Hermits Rest then Bright Angel...
I lived in Brandt Hall
if you are a couple you will be assigned to Rouzer Hall which is next door to Brandt

yes, there are a lot of drunks, a lot of parties, a lot of insanity
but of everywhere I have worked seasonally, GCSR with Xanterra was the least of all evils
