Living & Working in Great Places

This is from an email sent December 1:

Well...I think I'm going to be able to head home...Yesterday, after arriving in Kathmandu, I made my way to the Thai Air office. They issue numbers and after sitting for many hours, I left to try the other airline offices. I was told that I needed to make my own arrangements out....so I hit Dragon Air and Singapore Air. Then, again, I made the rounds early this morning, arriving at the Thai Air office at 7:30, even though they do not open until 9. The doors were open for the cleaning staff and I was able to get a number (7). Then it was a matter of sitting until they officially opened. When my number was called, I was told there was nothing they could do and that I should be trying to book a ticket through another airline. Then I was off to Dragon Air and Singapore Air...all had nothing available until mid-December. Then back to the Tibet Guest House to check email to see if my travel agent stateside could do anything (I couldn't check earlier because the power was off). She emailed that she could be of no help. Then I went to the travel agency across from the hotel to see what they had come up with...so...tomorrow (Dec 3) I fly business class on Etihad Airlines to Abu Dabi where I transit to JFK and then on to LAX...all business class...arriving in LAX on Dec 4th like previously arranged. There I will check into the hotel that I had booked through Hotels.com and Dec 5th catch my Delta flight home. I went to the Thanka Brothers shop and they did a cash advance on my American Express to pay for the ticket. Now, tomorrow morning, I must return to Thai Air at 7am again, get another number and then present my booked ticket. They then will reimburse me for the cost of their flights. Good Golly! I'm tired! But feel much better about knowing I will make it home on time!

So...keep your fingers crossed that I will safely make my way home...going around my ass to get to my elbow, as they say in the south.
