Living & Working in Great Places

I'm having fun remembering how impossible it was for me to get ready for that first summer in Yellowstone without ever having seen the place. Hell, I didn't even know where it was at first; like a surprisingly large number of Californians, I had it confused with Yosemite. I finally bought a "Story Behind the Scenery" book about Yellowstone. It was a good book--no problem there--but it gave me the impression that Yellowstone is pretty much all geysers. The place is over two million acres, and the geysers are a little tiny fraction of that. So in a sense, there is no way to plan.

Except to know that Yellowstone is the one with the hot water, and Yosemite is the one with the cliffs. And John Muir with his beard and his suspenders, all poetic and Scottish. Also Yosemite is in, you know, freakin' CALIFORNIA, not Wyoming.

:) that side of me can be very devilish, though it uses a whole lot of commons sence when it coms to Yellowstone. But then what I have heard over the years in Yellowstone and have been asked that side usually takes a front seat. I found ya kinda have to be that blunt with a whole lotta visitors to Yellowstone to get it to sink into there head for there own good.

Quite a BIGGGG difference between the two parks. I know what ya mean though. even though I am not a Californian I have had people think when I am talking about Yellowstone that it was Yosemite. and have had to correct a few people here and there. Yeah people do get mixed up on thinking that Yellowstone is all geysers but that's what it's famous for. I've even had people say they would never go there because they don't want to die because it was on a volcano. course my little devilish side comes out and tells them no it's not, its not just a volcano, its a super volcano. Then of course the little angel side comes out and explains to them in further detail.
