Living & Working in Great Places

Currently I'm Human Resources for Grand Teton Lodge Company in Jackson, WY. It's the first full-time, year round, 8-5, desk job I've ever had and I hate it. Don't get me wrong, I love the company and all the people I work with, but I've never sat behind a desk or worked those normal hours like most of the world and that's the part I'm not so in to.

So, I've decided to leave here in October and find something new. I'd REALLY like to spend a season in Antarctica (their summer), but if for some reason that doesn't work out, anyone have any suggestions?

I was thinking about somewhere near Grand Junction, CO, like on the Mesa. There are 2 lodges up there for sale - pity I've always done seasonal and traveled so therefore never save money cause it'd be awesome to buy one and run it for a bit. I was also thinking about Rosario in East Puget Sound.

Honestly though, no idea.

Hey Ren -

Antarctica?! I actually have a friend that used to do Antarctica and another person that worked for me worked for her at the southern continent. My friend did it for four years I think. Mostly for the $ but partly for the value of the research, though she was only indirectly involved; she was the camp cook.

The other person really didn't like it as it is horrifically isolated and dull. Getting there was the adventure for her. Both these women were of similar personalities though one was a lesbian.

My choice of seasonal employers has always revolved around my seasonal passions of skiing and fishing. My strategy was easy... where is the best snow & fishing in the USA. Thus the Tetons for snow (500" of champagne powder every season) and Alaska for fishing.

So, Ren, what makes you passionate?

Good luck, and good job starting this group.

what do you do and where do you like to go in between seasons? i have often thought of heading down to central america for a few months with savings from summer work. ever tried that? just so so long as you have enough money to get back to the states again to pick up on another seasonal job. habla espanol?
