Living & Working in Great Places

Funny. I thought it would take several weeks after leaving my job at Grand Canyon South Rim for me to even want to think about what lies ahead. I had already accepted my next assignment, retail associate at Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton NP, before leaving, but I didn't really know much about it except for the stunning images I've seen of the area.
But I went ahead and posted a thread asking about working for GTLC, and so far I have heard nothing but positive replies! It sounds like a great place for employees, unlike my experience at Grand Canyon. Not that either company I worked for at South Rim was horrible... just, they don't offer a lot of benefits or outside work options to their employees. Once you take a tour or two, all that's left is paid rec center trips.

So what am I most looking forward to?
1)Horseback riding! I have always wanted to ride, and did a few trail rides as a teen (EONS ago!), so I am hoping the opportunity to expand my skills is present.

2) A pool! WOW. Ok so maybe the water never really warms up but... there is WATER! To get to water outside of a bathroom at the canyon you have to hike 20 miles round trip! lol

3)Trips to Jackson... I don't do well when in prolonged isolation from the amenities of town life. Three weeks was my limit before getting really stressed about getting to Flagstaff from the canyon!

4)Walking in fresh scenery. I do have an adventurous streak which propels me into wild areas. Of course, there were no bears in Arizona...

I hope I am not being unrealistic. I know it's going to be a lot of work hours and of course dealing with the visitors. But I have a very positive feeling and am actually counting the days til I leave!

So what did you think of the South Rim?

Oh, by the way - another cool thing about Jackson Lake Lodge - there's a few moose who live by the cabins! I walked to work by a mama moose and her baby everyday of August! :)
