Thanks for being here! The six of us at CoolWorks welcome you and wish you success in finding your Jobs in Great Places®!

Well I have been up in Alaska now for a full week. It started late in Anchorage at a great little place, and progressed the next day south down to Cooper Landing. The drive down here was beyond belief. Mountains surround you as you drive parallel to the Turnagain arm. The hiway snakes around the canyons. Several times we stopped to take pictures of the snow that was over my head in depth, as the day I arrived in Alaska a late snow shower dumped about a foot of snow into the area. Temperatures were in the 30's. I arrived at my place of employment just in time for dinner. Right now there are only three of us here working for the Family that owns the lodge. And we eat dinner in the dinning room of the Mother and Father of my boss family style. Have performed a myriad of odd jobs since arriving, from painting the store, to laying down wood flooring in the new salmon bake pavilion. The past few days we have been digging ditches in order to lay the footings of the stage outside the salmon bake. I have now operated a large blow torch to melt giant sheets of ice and snow. Spent a few afternoons up at the russian river ferry and the kenai lake bridge. I saw a bunch of eagles and swans and even some folks out riding atvs on the frozen lake. Temperatures have been from around 18-20 in the AM to around 40 in the later day. Sun staying around until about 1030. Still trying to get adjusted to the time change. No bears yet but people keep saying it wont be long. Ready for some warmer temps so I can get out into the woods. It has been a lot of fun getting to help the resort get ready to open from the very beginning. Have taken a ton of pictures but have a slow connect here. It is nice to be able to work and see the mountains all around you. This is going to be an amazing summer adventure, and I feel that I made a great choice in coming here. Everything is exactly how it was presented to me prior to my arrival. Seems like a great family environment here. Looking forward to more people getting here and having some other personality types. So yeah everything is super so far...
