Living & Working in Great Places

As I was driving down Highway 89 the other day to Jackson, I saw an amazing sight. Something that I've not seen since August 2007... it was a golden belly marmot, commonly known as a Whistlepig. Now for those of you who have never seen a whistlepig or a gold belly marmot - this varmit looks like a cross between a prairie dog and a Texas Whampus Cat. Of course, the poor thing was starving as it was sitting on about three feet of snow and not a green blade of anything in site. I'm thinking it got its' wake up call way to early as we do have about 3 or 4 feet of snow still on the ground. Even the moose and elk are having a hard time finding food with all this snow. I pity our new employees arriving here. If they are coming from a warmer climate, I'm sure they will be frozen solid by the time the Lodge Opening happens on May 19th. Of course, if they have put on winter fat like I have, then they may survive until it warms up.

So, for all of you coming to the Grand Tetons - don't forget your warm mittens and jackets! Oh Happy Spring!
