Living & Working in Great Places

Just thaught I would update. typing from Grand Canyon North Rim. It's been interesting. Company has a long ways yet to really get it figured out after taking over from Xanterra. None the less the North Rim is up and running and like all the other places the tourist are in with there many eccentricities. I have 5 months or so to go and thinking of going over to the South Rim once this ends, but.........I am still yearning for my Yellowstone. Like the old saying for the Marines, once a Marine.......Well Yellowstone will always be my first love. Lots of people are already gone, fired or quit and lots of new people comming in. The weather is a bit cold at night and finally starting to warm up durring the day. Will write again. Dinner time.

The food, well lets just say when the cookout ladies where cooking it was good buttttttt, They braught in a bunch of new recruits from vegas fresh out of cooking school and they suck. The dorms The New dorm is good. It's two stories and the rooms are huge. The other dorms are ok but not as nice. They have shuttle trips into several places. St. George, some of the other parks so on. The wireless is iffy at best. Some get connection behind the lodge but no where else. They have an employee pub, and they have like poker night bingo night and Kareoke.

Yeah I've been up here since the 21st April. So I have seen it already. Xanterra is what you make it so is this company. I know I worked Xanterra 8 yrs so I know the bad and the good. All it takes is a few bad apples. But this is there first year up here so differenty company, different rules. It's still early yet so maybe the kinks will be worked out.

was at the north rim last year and if not for the way the managment treats people it would have been worth it. It is to bad that even though a different company is running the show they hired some of the same people to treat people the same way they did before. on a side note they have a rep to lie alot to get you up there so be prepared for that.

North rim is not open in the winter. It's ok but still a lot to figure out with new company and all. Either have a vehicle or bring a good supply of everything. It's very isolated and the nearest big town is St. George Utah which is about 3 hours away. They have some small places befor that but thats like 80 miles. They need help now actually because like I said there are those that have been fired or quit. Just call up and speak with Dan Anderson. He can answer all your questions. If you are comming up to party, think again. They had a big problem in years past and as a part of security we are cracking down on it this year. Were not saying not to have fun but the rowdiness is being quickly stamped out. Again call Dan and again not open in the winter. We go untill October then close untill next April.
