Living & Working in Great Places

10/20/08
Since I have not been able to secure a winter position that I want, I have decided to head for the
desert of West Arizona and sit out the winter. I love the fall season here in Southwest Missouri with the maple trees turning the leaves every color of red and yellow that you can think of. In sight of my window now is a maple that is deep reds and rust and in a few more week will be a wonderful tree to behold.
Now I have never lived around or on a desert so this will be a new experience for me. Don't tell me to watch out for the snakes that is a give me. I will do my research and talk to others that are there for things I need to watch out for. Winds I would think would be another thing. So I guess I will find out just how well sealed or not sealed this RV is. But all in all I am looking forward to something new, new places to see, new things to learn and poke my nose into. Be assured I will ask around for a small position that I might be able to pass the time with. I already know I will be heading back to the Mt. Rushmore area come Spring. That in itself will bring a new road to drive coming from a new direction. Can life get any better than this. No ruts for me.

Thank you, Xanterra HR lady ask if I wanted to go down there before I had left SD. I did not think it would be all that hard to find another placement in a warmer climate. But it is. I did not plan well for this winter. But like I have said this first year is my learning curve. I am already working on some positions for the winter of 2009. Ladies and anyone else that reads this, you have to plan ahead if you want to stay busy. Believe me that is harder done than said. One, you don't know where you would like to go. But get over that and just say this is where I am going, what is there that I can do and start looking. I have gotten a subscription to workampers as well and have gotten several hits on it. But I have already put up a deposit on a campsite and would loss it. So as I have said, plan ahead. Know where you are going before you put your money down and wish you had not. Work it girls.

Working at the Grand Canyon I would love to work the train that runs out there. Maybe another season.

Good Morning Sue,
I've been working at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon for 20 months now. If you don't mind being a little isolated from civilization maybe you can check out some seasonal jobs here.

Thanks Rob and Lisa for your encouragment. Yes Rob I will be in Bouse, AZ and I never thought about asking about going down to the border to get somethings done cheaper. So yes that is one thing I will ask about. Thanks for the heads up. have a great day.

Sue, hi, I live in Arizona and thought I might pass some advice along.....If you are in Western AZ for the winter, if you need glasses or prescriptions filled or dental work done, you might want to look into heading to Los Algodones (Mexican border town right outside of Yuma, AZ) to have these kinds of things done much cheaper than on this side of the border. If you stay in an RV park you will meet people who do this to save money and will get advice as to where to go across the border to get the best deals. Have a great winter! 40Rob
