The snow plow crews begin peeling back the snow from Mammoth on the first Monday after the first Sunday in March every year. It takes weeks for them to get the park opened. But once the roads are in decent shape from Mammoth to West Yellowstone they will open them to bicycle traffic, on weekends, for a few weeks before the roads open to cars for the season. During the week there is a lot of maintenance and construction traffic out there as folks scurry around to get the park ready to open. But the weekends for a short time are for biking.
Some photos from a bike run from Mammoth to Roaring Mountain on March 27th.
