A Week in the Life -- Alaska Wildland Adventures

This is my third season with Alaska Wildland Adventures at their Cooper Landing location, the Kenai Riverside Lodge.  It's the center of their three lodges, and the location of all the Sportsfishing activities.  In 2012, I blogged about a day in the life.  My position is the same, and a good day is about the same too.  That one is here: http://my.coolworks.com/profiles/blogs/a-day-in-the-life-at-alaska-...

I'll just hit on some of the highlights of this week.

Sunday, 27 July 2014:  Just coming off a weekend where I needed to catch up on my sleep.  I like to think my 2 am shift start is easy to adjust.  But it sometimes builds up.  Had a 3 am Continental, a 4 am breakfast buffet and a 8 am buffet.  I walked to Wildman's about 3 miles down the road and had a mocha.

Monday, 28 July 2014:  Another 3 am continental, 4am and 8 am buffets.  It's beginning to become dark dark late night and growing fast.  I sat down by the dock and watched the guides come back from their trips with fish.

Tuesday, 29 July 2014:  Planned for the continental and they changed it up on me...all 4 am and 8 am buffets.Walked down to the bridge.  It was partly cloudy at the lodge, and looks like it's been raining most of the day over here.  Stopped at the small Cooper Landing Grocery store on the way back and picked up a couple of candy bars and Dr. Pepper.

Wednesday, 30 July 2014:  Small continental at 3 am, buffets at 4 am and 8 am.  Look a little at some winter job opportunities.  Applied last week to the Gasparilla Inn and Club in Boca Grande, Florida.  It's been on and off showers all day.  Cleaned up my tent cabin.

Thursday, 31 July 2014:  My weekend begins almost as early as my work schedule.  I'm joining Geo and his guests for a day of fishing on Resurrection Bay out of Seward!  I caught 6 Silver salmon, and 4 rockfish.  Caught and released 12 pink salmon.

Friday, 1 August 2014.  Slept 'til noon.  Felt good.  Placed an application and emailed resume to the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida.

Saturday 2 August 2014:  It's August.  Sockeye has really slowed down on the Kenai.  The 3 am continental now switches into a 6 am buffet.  Still have the 4am and 8 am buffets.  Fun time laundry day.  Writing this blog...  Saw Sarah at breakfast, she has a group she is guiding.  Last year she heard me talking about getting the gig in the Virgin Islands and she applied.  We will both be down there this year Oct 1 - Oct 30.  60 more days!
