Alaska (aaaaaaah), here I come. Is anyone going to be joining me in 2012?

Greetings eveyone,

I hope everyone is having a pleasant holiday season. I know it is still November, but I have received a couple good leads for jobs in Alaska. I am 99% sure I will be working at Mt. McKinley as a front desk agent if I want the job. I am also considering other jobs with other companies in Alaska as well. One thing for sure, I will be spending the summer of 2012 in Alaska. Is anyone else going to be working in Alaska next summer? If so, what will you be doing? Where will you be working? Have you worked there before? Will you please share your experiences with me and other potential Alaska bound Cool Works users? The good, the bad and the indifferent experiences you have had will be great to hear about. I want to wish everyone good luck with their job search wherever you end up for the summer of 2012 season. Make sure you start putting in applications for the great and exotic locations advertising on Cool Works before all thhe great jobs are filled. Have a Happy Holidays everyone!

Hi Leo,

I worked at MPWL as a server in the Grozzly Bar. I loved everything about the job, people and experience and have just been approved to go back this summer. The pros are the like-minded people you will meet and the tours and experiences that await you. In my opinion the only downsides were how isolated the lodge is compared to the othet Princess lodges and the difficulty of acquiring travel to an actual city (Walmart, grocery store, pharmacy etc.) which is about an hour away. It's nearly impossible without your own means of getting there. Also the last meal is served from 4-7, so getting off from the bar late sucked because I would have to buy bar food nearly every night. But those are both very minor things considering you can usually grab a ride to Wasilla with someone else going and you get an employee discount on all restaurant food. Anyway, this summer is sure to be a blast and I hope you get the job!

Hi Leo,

How are you? I noticed that you have the opportunity to work at MPL (Mt. McKinley Princess Lodge), and I would say that is an awesome place. I have been working there for 5 seasons now soon to be 6 next summer. I actually worked at the front desk for 4 seasons and had some really great times. Started as a front desk agent my first season and than front desk supervisor the following three seasons. The front desk manager is one of the best you could ask for. Very personable and very talkative. A really close friend of mine.

I will not lie, there will be some hard times at the desk but you will have more good times than bad times. If it was all bad I wouldn't have went back year after year.

There are so many things to do and see during your off time as well. Tours you can go on, a little town you can visit and tons of new friends to hang out with and get to know. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. I'll do my best to answer anything you have and any questions you may even have about employee housing.

Take care in search and have a great day.

Hello Leo!  I am almost 100% sure I secured my first seasonal job, and it will be in AK.  I will be further North than McKinley, actually in Coldfoot.  I have never been, so I can not tell you anything in regards to that, but friends who have worked there loved it.  Ill be 60 miles above the arctic circle in the Brooks range, so the weather Ill experience will be different from yours.  When do you think you will be arriving?

Well as most everyone knows, I already bought my 1-way ticket to Anchorage. I arrive in Alaska on March 31, 2012. So maybe with some luck I will see you up there. I have never been to AK before so this will be a whole new experience and I can't hardly wait for it.
