Thanks for being here! The six of us at CoolWorks welcome you and wish you success in finding your Jobs in Great Places®!

I've put in an application, took the typing test and passed, and gone through a phone interview after which I was hired.

I guess that was step one in a nutshell, lol. I shall be in the reservations office at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park for the 2014 season.

Now starts step two. The packers are due here on Wednesday, the movers on Thursday. Putting everything except for a few little things into storage and hitting the road. My Jeep Wrangler, Honda Goldwing, and a trailer. Just the three of us.

Ah, the story up to now? Okay, my name is Milton, picked up the nickname of "Mac" a few years ago when I first went into the military, had it ever since. Don't really care which one I'm called, I'll probably answer. I retired from the U. S. Army Reserve In 2002, after 28 years of combined active duty and reserve duty, and recently retired from the Harris County Sheriff's Office in Houston, Texas after a total of 33 years in the business. So to say the least, I'm ready to do something else.

I've always wanted to work in Yellowstone, or at least ever since I found out you could do such a thing back in about, oh, 1999 I guess. It was still the Harvey company back then I think. I've brought my kids to the park when I could, and visited by myself then they were off visiting their mom for the summer. Being a single dad was great as I could plan the trips and take them without having to "compromise" a whole lot, lol.

So this will be my first seasonal position anywhere, and I'm glad it will be in Yellowstone. I've read just about everything I could get my hands on about it, the life, the living accommodations, etc. It seems that no matter what, everyone's experience can be different, either good or bad. Hopefully it will be the experience I have been looking forward to.

I'm supposed to be there in April, so I'll drive around a bit and visit family and friends before reporting in. Not really sure which direction to go in first, but I'm going, because I'm out of this house by this Saturday, plans or no plans!

See ya on the road!

I'm sure you will enjoy the experience.. just don't forget the flyrod as there are some great places there and nearby where you can go and catch a big 'un.  I lived at Jackson Lake Lodge, Grand Tetons for two years and would take the time at least once a month to venture into Yellowstone.  It was always fun... Good luck in your new venture and who knows - we may meet some where sometime as I'm a Texan too!
