Living & Working in Great Places

Last year i remember reading about Terry and her adventures at the South Pole.I remember the interest it sparked in me.The thought of spending a "season" at the bottom of the world seemed interesting.
Werner Herzog,a director/filmmaker,(im sure he's more than that but you get the idea)made a documentary based on the people that make Camp McMurdo their semi-seasonal home.Encounters At The End Of The World is the name of the video.Their lives, happenings, ongoings, the eccentric spirit that makes the camp a home.He interviews the simple to the scientific. Some shots of daily life, dorm rooms/home away from home. The tales and stories of the people that have "ended up"down there. One workers explanation of how they got there was based on not being attached. He said"everyone here are loose ends.Loose ends eventually end up at the bottom when they're not attached to anything".Thats very true.
All is not pristine beauty down below though. The camp is basically a city.Cities have a way of being dirty and ugly. That was documented also. There is large equipment on the move.Moving and changing the land to suit the needs for the experiments, gathering of information and day to day operation. All pay a price for progress and the next scientific breakthrough.
I highly enjoyed the documentary.I highly recommend others to see it.I believe everyone that comes in contact with Coolworks has a percentage of adventurism.A very high percentage of us will never step foot outside of "our box" let alone the South Pole. These type of movies hit home with me because i have the "want to see it do it all someday"attitude.I read that attitude here everyday. That makes this video interesting to us.
If there is anyone else that has a type of vid/doc/movie that might be of interest us in the Coolworks world, please let us know.
Have a great day everyone.

I hate to be picky here, but McMurdo's not a camp, it's a station. McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Other than that Herzog put together a nice documentary. There are lots of odd people here and he seemed to find them all to put together an interesting movie about the characters that are McMurdo.
