Thanks for being here! The six of us at CoolWorks welcome you and wish you success in finding your Jobs in Great Places®!

I've been to Yellowstone approximately 12 times and to several other western parks.I always end up talking to some of the employees and I was often impressed at how interesting many of these people are. For years I have thought about applying for work in a national park. Last year, my wife and I tried it; two months housekeeping, not at Yellowstone, at the end of the season. It didn't work out, for several reasons. The major one was a health issue.

So, I'm going to try again. Just me this time, at Canyon in the general store. I'm old enough to take this all in stride, but I'm somewhat nervous. Solid friendships will already be long established and routines will be set.
I play at playing guitar, so I wonder if I will have the chance to hear some good pickers.
My wife and I have never been separated for so long, so that is an added burden. I've been searching for places in YS where I can use my cell. Also, I hope wifi is adequate.

Advice is welcome.

There is wifi at Canyon for DNC, but it is slow at times. The cell service here is spotty. Verizon is the only provider that works at Canyon. For other cell providers, you will probably have to drive to Mammoth or Old Faithful to use your phone.

I don't know how the wifi is for DNC. I know Xanterra is in the process of putting in a new service that employees and eventually guests will have to pay for. Eventually meaning when they get it into the lodges. Snow Lodge already has it.

Good luck with your adventure. I am a "mature" adult who just finished two months working at Old Faithful. The Park is beautiful...bring lots of bug spray as the mosquitoes are out and about. Housing is not great at Canyon from what I have heard. Wi-fi was partially available at Old Faithful, but may not exist at Canyon. I talked to employees at Lake who did not have a connection and that isn't too far away from Canyon. I left early for several reasons. First, I fractured a tooth, which required a 2 1/2 hour drive to Livingston. Also, realized for the little they paid me, I would never be able to afford any major dental work. It sounds like you will be working for DNC? The people there are great, so making friends may not be a problem. Old Faithful was just too busy and too much like a real job for my taste. You get all the bad parts of working and for very little money. I think that the smaller locations offer a better work environment and the DNC employees are a better group. Good luck and watch out for bears!
