Lots of Cool Opportunities after my layoff shock

I just can't believe how well things have worked out for me since being laid off on Feb 2, 2009! I had been doing the same job for nearly 30 years and suddenly it was over. My wife and I happen to have visited Yellowstone in September, 2008 and I had met some folks my same age working at the Lake Lodge there. One of them gave me a card regarding seasonal jobs - which I happened to stumble across just after my layoff. This led me to Coolworks.com and the rest, as they say, is history. I have gotten four (4) call backs from the applications I submitted through Coolworks. Two at Yellowstone, one at Flagg Ranch, and one (just last week) at Glacier NP. As many of you know I signed on with DNC Yellowstone a few weeks ago as my first seasonal job experience. I am really anticipating a fun summer, and really hope this lifestyle clicks with me. I think it will be a perfect match, but time will tell. The challenge will be to pay bills back home, while working in a National Park for minimum wage. In my case I also am temporarily widowing my wife for 3 months (but just this first time trial run - next summer she is coming with me!) Next year's challenge will be to get job offers from Alaska lodges (or even one of the trains - always wanted to be a train conductor!). I am dreaming BIG these days and not looking back.

Glad to see everything is working out for you. Hope you have a great season! If you get a chance sometime during the season to write about your experience I'd love to read it. Also, if you do choose to head up to Alaska you will probably be earning significantly more than minimum wage...and there are tons of opportunities.
