Living & Working in Great Places
Thanks for being here! The six of us at CoolWorks welcome you and wish you success in finding your Jobs in Great Places®!
This winter season I decided to stay near home for a few personal reasons. I am really looking forward to getting back into the groove of things.
I'm staying in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and picked up a local job at a Best Western Premier hotel in town. I'll go up to De Pere (in the Green Bay metro area) for a couple of days in early May to visit my mother. On May 4 I start the long bus ride. I have transfers in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Memphis. I have stops of half an hour or longer along the way in Oklahoma City, Amarillo, and Albuquerque. I get off the bus on May 6 in Phoenix, and make the transfer to the airport. I'm going to Las Vegas for a couple of days, and the standard route between Wisconsin and Las Vegas I have traveled a few times in the last couple of years and I wanted to see some different scenery. And once you are in Phoenix, a flight is almost as cheap as the bus.
I'm on a Southwest flight around noon. If you have flown this route, it is one of those that as soon as you reach cruising altitude you begin your descent. I used Hotwire.com to choose my hotel. My last couple of times I have stayed in Vegas it has been downtown...and I'm good with that...but this time I wanted to be down near the strip. The opaque site picked Hooters Casino for me. It does have a resort fee of $14.95, most of the strip casino hotels do have this extra fee. But other than that it was only $26-night. I'm there three nights.
On May 9, I'm flying to Anchorage on Alaska Air from about 5:30 pm and arriving just before 10 pm. It's one of the least expensive flights to Alaska that I have had. Just $199...after taxes and fees.
I could probably stay at the AWA guide house in Anchorage, but I sometimes like to explore the hotel industry if I have the money so I had hotwire pick me another choice. I have two nights at the Coast International Inn near the airport. On the 11th, I'll make my way over to the guide house where Alaska Wildland Adventures will be picking up several of us for the trip to Copper Landing.
