This summer I will be working at the Sheep Mountain Lodge in Alaska. It's located along the Glenn Highway, but it's 60 miles to the nearest town center.
Some days my primary job will be as Prep/Breakfast cook. Other days my primary job will be as Baker. Neither position is a just only spot.
For the two days as the prep/breakfast cook, I'll start the day preparing and cooking any breakfast orders. Then I'll get the soup completed. Does any dishes along the way. I'll finish any prep needed for the lunch and dinner cook. For group lunches I'll help set-up and breakdown the group dining area. Then be back in the kitchen.
As the baker for three days, I'll be making any of the baked goods. They're known for their sourdough, but there's the cinnamon rolls and carrot cake, at least four kinds of pie, other breads, and lots of cookies. Helps with dishes anytime. The baker also deals with the telephone for reservations. Greets and acts like host. Helps take and serve drink orders. Busses when needed and resets tables. Checks individuals in/out of cabins. Does a few housekeeping duties. For group breakfasts has necessary baked goods ready at tables. For group lunches greets guests, deals with any drink orders, helps serve, mans cash register and helps with the cleaning after.
The National Weather Service has a station at Sheep Mountain Lodge. Anjanette and Zack will teach me how to make the readings and make the records. It will also become part of my duties.
Not part of my duties...but I'm planning on using a big part of my spare time...I'll get to learn all about their sled dogs. Learning from some of the best, just for scooping some poop.
I might have forgotten to add some things here. Every day will be different.
