Thanks for being here! The six of us at CoolWorks welcome you and wish you success in finding your Jobs in Great Places®!

I sorta overheard yesterday about a position opening up in the library of the Park Headquarters in GCSR. The job won't be available until August 22nd. So today I asked them for an application.

Free Housing in big historical home

$75/week for about 32 hours of work in a library (me in a room full of books & a computer...HaHaHaHaHa~heaven)

Now I have volunteered at libraries years ago (before internet came out to the public); but even with that experience, I am not really familair with excel & word processing....so not sure if that will keep me from getting the job. Most people only keep this volunteer job for the minimum 3 months because most people have to many bills and can't live on $75 a week. BUT, I don't live with bills that I worry about (ok sure an ooooold student loan...but like I said I DON"T WORRY ABOUT IT..just pretend it don't exist). No phone, no car, no cable tv....no bills

Anyways, I am assuming this volunteer position can lead to other jobs within the park service, maybe even better paid jobs....so what do u think???

First, Yes put in your application if that is what you really want to do.... go for it! Perhaps you will learn the computer as you go or maybe someone you may know can show you those things you will need to know.

Volunteering would be great, specially if it is something you are really passionate about. I once knew someone while I was working in the Grand Tetons. They worked with the resort and most of all their off time was spent volunteering with the park service. The following summer they were hired by the park service seasonally. As years progressed so did his year round and position status. Last I heard he is still there as one of the top rangers for in the park. So volunteering would be a great way to get your foot in the door.

by all means put in your application, you can change your mind later, but it would be good on a resume! good luck
