me and my wife work there in 07 and going back this year i'm going to be the laundry supervisor and my wife is going to be the pbx operator so u be working with her sometimes its not an bad place there u will have fun why your bf have to be there early
Kelly, I think the chalet front desk will be more chill than previous years simply because it won't be as busy...but it will probably be far from being the most laid back front desk in Denali. In fact, it's usually the busiest and craziest...which can be a lot of fun and certainly makes your shift go pretty quickly. If you're into quiet and laid back, you would be happier at the Bluffs or the village (both of which I have worked at, as well). I'm not coming back because they cut my position from a 10-month a year job to a 5-month a year job, and I can't afford to live that kind of lifestyle anymore. Certainly, there will be people that you will have to watch your back around. Denali is like any place in that way. Unfortunately, my front desk staff last season were incredibly clickish, and I do know that one particularly clickish group of girls are coming back. I would just be friendly and open with everyone, and try to stay away from drama. There are so many open-minded and just interesting people that live and work in Denali that you will almost instantly find a group of people that you will get along with. I met some of my best friends in Denali, and have kept in touch with many of them.
Kelly, a mini fridge is a great idea. You will definitely make a lot of friends having one in your room, too. :o) Unfortunately, I decided not to come back this season for a number of reasons. I did work at the Chalet front desk for 3 years, and I ran it in 06 and 08.
Hi Kelly. Where are you working at the Chalet? it's a pretty big property. The Chalet tends to end up with a younger, rowdier employee crowd than anywhere else...though there are still folks from all walks of life that choose to live and work there. You might see that as good or as bad. It's easy to meet people, which is great. There's always someone to talk to (literally...there's ALWAYS someone in the EDR or the rec room). The food is cafeteria food. Some days it sucks. Some days it doesn't. Keep snacks in your room if you're a picky eater.
Moose Dropping is in Talkeetna, just south of Denali. There are many festivals in Alaska so visit as many as you can. Each one rocks in its own way, but Moose Dropping is special. Talkeetna, btw, is an awesome little town.
denali is great, if it's your first year, they'll put you in the smaller rooms, they're set up like motels, you'll have 1 roommate. it's a small community so it's not overwhelming. you'll enjoy it. the employee dining room consists of different food everyday, sometimes good sometimes bad, but there's a lot to choose from. the rec-room is remodeled as of last year, it's great, the mckinley chalet is the biggest and best place to work in denali, unless you can work inside the park.
Hey Kelly! That's awesome that you guys will be working there. I am super excited to go. This will be my first seasonal job. Have you been to Alaska before? I am going to be hostessing at Courtyard Cafe. What work are you guys going to be doing?
