I'll be returning to Kenai Fjords Tours in Seward... here's the link if you're interested in applying: http://www.coolworks.com/profile/CIRI-alaska-tourism-corp/kenai-fjords-tours
The tours are really great and the work isn't too hard if you're good at small talk, although the hours can be long sometimes. Let me know if you have any questions- Seward is a really great town with super hiking and kayaking, and not too far from Anchorage. Good luck!
HI Dominic! I've been browsing on here and saw your posts. I'm not positive yet but I'm sure i'm heading up to Coldfoot for the summer. I might be transferring units up to fairbanks (National Guard) but I won't know for sure until next week. If I do go up there it would be late april or so. If you want to chat let me know. So far i'm heading up by myself, I would be traveling from Missould over to Great Falls then up to Canada. Let me know!? :D
Sounds great though tomatoes and peppers need really consistently hot weather...but heck I've never grown anything in the Arctic and I can't wait to try everything. You should start the tomotoes and peppers in little trays or bowls before planting them straight into the ground....they will have a 200% better chance of surviving up there. Just a thought
I already have the following and I think it will be sufficient
beets, carrots, green bunching onions, garlic, kale, chard, lettuce, salad mix, and turnips
Heck yeah! Lets have a community coworker garden! I would love that! I am bringing up all the seeds we could possibly need and I will be coming June 3rd.
I was a server. I loved it. Really want to go back. I'm not to familiar with Coldfoot, only went up there a few times, but the cafe is cool. I've seen your looking for a server job up there. Please keep me posted with what they say to you because I might call them tomorrow or the next day and see why their haven't hired me back yet. Serving up there would be fun. You'd get to meet a lot of truckers and crazy tourist that past the arctic ciclre that want to go to Prudhoe Bay. I mostly dealt with Holland American Tours, which I think you'll have to deal with to but if they have it set up like they did last year, they shouldn't be having big dinners up there.
I've seen a few of your post and from I've gathered your going to love it. Just don't be dramatic. I only lived with a few people and there were still some crazy times, you are in the middle of nowhere and your not going to see a Safeway or whatever for awhile. But you'll love it, I did, shoot I want to go back. At Coldfoot, I hear its easier to get beer (if thats what your into) because you'll make friends with the truckers and they'll buy you stuff from town. If you smoke, I think they only have Camels and Marlboros.
And I don't know, its a really cool place to work. You'll be in the mountains and there really pretty. If you go up in April it should be still pretty snowy and you'll get to see break up. I hear its not the ideal A&E Alaska but man it was good for me. Its what you make it. Some people walked away mad and some people walked away with a permanent smile, like me.
But remember keep me posted on what Brett and Michael tell you about the hiring thing, cause damn I want to go back.
Hey Dominic, I saw you´re looking for a possible ride up to Alaska. I´m in Ecuador right now but planning on being back in WI around mid march, hanging with friends and family then looking to go west then up to Alaska. I don´t have a car but can share gas, driving times...also have plenty of places we can crash at along the way. Did you land a job yet? i´m still applying. Anyways, just wanted to say whats up and get an early look at Alaska
Dominic,
Where have you been? Every ones worried sick. It's been over a day, and in the Seasonal Addicts Anon world, that's far too long to be away from coolworks.com
I worked one season at the Kenai Princess. It is a great place. It is only 86 rooms, so a lot smaller than my place now. As for advice, just be yourself. Make sure they know you really want the job. Nothing turns a manager off more than a person who acts like they are doing us a favor by taking the job. We want excitement.
