I'm a barista at Aroma Espresso Bar on the upper west side! i live in a loft and the whole shebang its ridiculous LOL. I grew up in manhattan, i actually hate it here.. but I always seem to come back... haha, most likely cause its home, and all my friends and my mum is here. i went to a french school (im french actually) and spent my childhood and adolescent years in an upper class private school on scholarship and broke free of the ivy league way of thinking. i went to california for 5 months and lived with my boyfriend who was in college at the time there (he dropped out, we're a lot alike) and we took off to colorado where we lived at Mission Wolf for 2 months, its a wolf sanctuary in southern colorado. most people dont know about it or havent heard of it, its very remote. then we came back home for a week or two and took off to arizona for 3 months and worked to southwest conservation corps, that was fantastic, i love the desert, the people there are truly great, and even though its hard work they absolutely love what they do, and in this society it's hard to come by someone, mind you a group of people who really love their jobs. it was fantastic, we got back home just in time for christmas and ive been home ever since. adrian (my BF) went to california for another 3 months after working at mammoth mountain as a lift operator, hes a boarder he only did it for the best free ride in the country. hes back now, working with his father making violins and cellos, and im a coffee gal. i just completed half an application to Chelsey camp in colorado. i think i definitely want colorado this summer, so i can catch a bus down to mission wolf when the season's over and chill with the wolves before school (MAYBE, big maybe) starts in the fall. wow that was a lot. WHAT DO YOU DO BESIDES COOLWORKS, WHERE DO YOU GO, WHO DO YOU MEET, WHERES HOMEBASE FOR YOU?
wow, that sounds like a lot of fun! do you ever meet any cool people and organizations? im looking for something for the summer. i was thinking more conservation work, or maybe some sort of counselor at a camp, or even something extreme like river rafting, but id definitely need training for that. also, there are certain requirements and prerequisites for instance, the wilderness certification thingy thats like $450 or something like that. in the end it'd be totally worth it, but i cant totally afford that at the moment. i would do SCC (southwest conservation corps) again for sure, but thats also in the middle of the desert and during summertime, i dont really think i could handle the heat. that being said, conservation work during the summer would definitely have to be in the northern states. is there anything you recommend?
I've made some reservations for Seattle By Foot's Coffee Crawl in the morning and I'll also be taking a chocolate class at Oh, Chocolate in the early evening. I was first thinking about catching Katie Melua at the Tractor Tavern, but my plane leaves at 6:30 the next morning. I wanted a Mariner's game, but they're away. I have the afternoon open, and I'm guessing with the crawl I won't be taking a nap.
hey! thanks for the pic comment. its just a little spot off of the Mantua creek in NJ. that spot is kinda close to the parking spot so i sat in my kayak and watched the sunset. then almost got carried away by mosquitos, lol. theres kind of alot of places to kayak around here but if your not into it youd never know they were there so the are seldom seen : )
That is cool, so will you be there through the summer? And just curiosity what can I expect from this summer, I have been trying to get ahold of people that have worked there before but I am not having a whole lot of luck.
Thanks for the info on the University Inn...I might use it on my way back. This trip is kind of an experiment with hotwire. I have only heard friends of friends that have used it, thought I'd give it a try. So I booked just a couple minutes ago and it's at the Executive Pacific Plaza Hotel...I think it's in the Pike Plaza area. I have all day on Sat the 9th with no plans as of yet...
Hi Kari, I have a Seattle question and who better to ask? I'm finalizing my trip plans and might be trying the hotwire thing. The star-rating is similar and so is the price of a hotel choice, but one is near the airport and the other is in downtown. (3.5 stars/$63 for seatac...3 stars/$64 for downtown) I'd be taking the train in, but leaving by plane...that is if you can fly into Anchorage that day...hopefully that volcano will calm down at least that day. It would be late on May 8th to mid-day on the 10th. I'm leaning towards downtown, but any suggestions?
Looks like I made it out just in time... The volcano is going coo-coo for coco puffs now. Most flying shut down... I love nature! :)~ Just glad to beat it this time around though. Hope all is good; Sorry I haven't been to active lately. Much to keep me going now... :( Well, peace amiga.
Kari,

Nice to meet you Kari, I already feel at home.
Great job on these pages too.
It looks like you may be responsible for some of the behind the scenes stuff here, if so kudos :)
Hi Kari. I was just looking at your drivers room group and thought it might be good to open it up to all drivers. For instance I had some non bus driving jobs that were fun (dock shuttle driver for White Pass & Yukon Rout Railway in Skagway, Alaska), Bad but beautiful (van driver for Togotee Lodge in Wyoming), or just plain bad (too many to list). On the other hand I can see just keeping it the way it is and maybe starting some other group... That's it! I'll be back.
