Hey ol buddy! been thinking about ya and hope all is well! i'm living in littleton now and have been wanting to see ya sometime before I head off to arizona. as of right now i'm managing the restaurant on the north rim of the grand canyon this season. lost your info. 5092009305 love to hear from you. i'm alot closer now then I was before. lol.
Actually I am headed to Rio Blanco Ranch in CO this summer. I was at Coldfoot a few years back now. Brother I have that bar in tip top shape for I tell you what, the last few bar managers took no pride in that place so I had a lot of work to organize it. Hopefully everything is ready for you to begin. If you have any questions throughout the summer let me know I would be happy to help. You actually have a staff of around 75 during peak season, but at times it can seem small. As for tips, the ranch has a bit of a no tipping policy. You will get tips during the spring and fall but don't look to get to much during the summer. I maybe walked away with a grand over the course of May-Nov in cash. I will give Yancey credit in the fact that is one thing he would like to see changed. As for the Chef, you might have it easier with Brian being an older guy, he is probably less likely to mess with you.
Thanks for the I sight Kevin. I think it will be a good season there. Ill be the bar manager as well. Sounds like a small staff there which is fine and haven't met a chef yet that's terriblyeazy to get along with either. From your posts looks like you are heading to coldfoot camps. I considered that as well did a summer in Skagway awhile back. Hey in addition to the salary did cash tips amount to much? Anyhow thanks again and really have a great summer
Well I was the Bar Manager there last year. They don't really have f&B people unless you are a manager or you straight work in the kitchen. The kitchen staff is going to be primarily new this season except for the two top chefs. Brian is a straight arrogant prick, good luck with him. Jeff the Sous Chef is a good guy you just have to get through his estranged sense of humor. Don't look for any good graces being a guy in the kitchen if you do not work in there because they could care less about you, but naturally the girls get away with murder. The best part of the job are honestly the guests there will be some amazing guests come through and some bad, but mostly they tip toward the good side. Steer clear from Yancey, he is extremely passive aggressive, he prefers to let everything go on it's merry way until you have just completely jacked your position in his eyes until he steps in. Hopefully my exit interview with him last year will have changed this behavior.
But the ranch itself is gorgeous, great food and accommodations!
Hey Mark, i am having trouble opening the SERVER PAGE that HR sent me. I believe it is the page that tells me all i need to bring to start work..i.e. dress slacks, shirt ect.... so i was just wondering what it said and what we need to bring to the front of the house. hope to hear from you soon. jeffery
How long of a drive do you have?... i see your from CO. Yeah, biking it to work would be ideal but i think that it is kinda lenghty. A bike is going to be one of the first things i buy once im there. I just drove from Moab UT to eastern washington the other day! almost 14hours on the road~ not fun, still trying to recover:) ttyl!
Mark, well i never thought that i would find anyone who was going to be working at Jenny Lake; let alone a fellow server!! I have my arrival date and all set in stone on the 25th through HR but will take you up on doing some site seeing this year! I sold my VW bug a couple weeks ago to take this trip:( Cant wait to start the season! see you there!
Hey Mark! Good for you for doing what you want to do, no matter what age. Guess the only thing it does is make you regret not doing it sooner. I dont have much right now (no house) but wouldn't mind selling everything and buying a travel trailer! I have a cat, and she needs me as much as i need her lol. Hope you enjoy your summer!!!
Hey, I hope this doesn't show up twice cause i just sent you a comment but here goes another one... Hi, i'm also going to be working in Jenny Lake as front house server and im really excited! Was wondering what department your going to be in?..ttyl
Hey Mark, just noticed you were in Jenny Lake this season and so am I! I'll be working front of house serving. My arrival date is the 25th of May. So what department are you going to be in. Hope to talk to you soon! take care, jeff
Thanks for the comments. We have been on the road back to Cooper Landing since the 25th and I am just getting back online.
Hope you have a good time at Jenny Lake this summer. I spent two summers in the area and just scratched the surface of the recreational smorgasboard the region has to offer. The hiking is unbelievable, the fishing excellent, watersports of all kinds (esp whitewater), climbing, birding, wildlife and wildflowers... wow. If we didn't love Alaska so much, we would be there year-round.
You said you were a F&B guy. What does that mean? I will be doing hiring for the kitchens at Grand Targhee, but I can hook you up with front of the house people to talk to. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will discuss if you are interested.
