Hello sis, looking forward to the visit. I'm looking for some people who have worked at Tower in Yellowstone so I can ask about the dorms and such. Any thing else you want me to bring your way when I come?
Hey that is great I will look for you. But I know I will see you off and on in the EDR (Employees Dining Room) We all have to take our meals there. Yes it has been rather cool this June and I am also ready for some warmer weather. Business has been good, we are up 11% over last year and last year was a very good year. I too am working on a list of what I need to live in a dorm. I don't think I will pull my RV around anymore. See how that works out for me. Never know until I try it. Be careful on the road.
I live in South Florida and will arrive at Mt Rushmore before May 27th Start Date. I will be working secutiry in the employees dorm. Hope to meet you there. This is my first season out also I just retired May of 2008 and took a year to recooperate from working in jail 20 years. Now I am so excited t o be working again and in the Mountains. I am sure it will be very different from what I am use to. Carol
Yes, I started orientation today. But since we have a new owner I thought maybe some things would be different. Some are and some have not changed. The weather here has been mild about 47 today but it has started a light rain. That may turn into snow Fri and Sat. I had to stay in the dorm guest room while I was waiting for my RV spot to be emptied. Darryl/Patsy, his wife are Leads and fulltime employees and they stay in the space I stay in, they take the winter and I have the summer. But tonight I get to sleep in my own bed, that will be nice.
Looking forward to meeting you also. They are bidding on the Cape down in Florida and The Statue of Liberty, don't know much about it at this time but have my ear open for more info.
We have had a brisk business already. So it might be better than we all thought at first.
Later Barb
Your right Quartzsite has not been that busy. But it was fun anyway.
When I saw the different holes on that golf course I thought it might be quite a challenge for those that do play. One can only get on top of Washington and Jefferson. The other two are not connected to the first ones. I will be up there for the whole summer until the end of Sept. My sister and her husband will be working there also this summer. We all have a good time, if that is what you want to have. Later Barb.
Great Barb, I will be looking for you. I will start on the 16th of April. I will be down in Keystone in the RV park that Xanterra has there. I assume you will be in the dorm. That is not bad. I considered leaving my RV here in AZ and driving back but just didn't. Even in food you won't starve. I will be over in retail. But I would not mind working in food just to have another position I could apply for. You must complete your contract to be considered again for rehire. But I could live and do most anything knowing it will not be forever. But if you want to go to another park after you complete your contract ask Paulette for a transfer. You will carry your employee number no matter what park your in. Paulette is a very sweet lady. This year I intend to go with the group that will climb on top of the heads. They do 2-3 trips for the employee each year usually in Aug. A park ranger leads the group. The 4th of July will be hell on wheels for everyone that is working there. It is busy but I enjoy it. Lots to do up there on your days off. But to end this I am looking forward to meeting you. Until then. I hate not having internet 24/7. I have to come over to Quartzsite about every other day to check my email and do my busy on line. Oh well paradise has it's drawbacks as well. Never happy are we. I love the desert, for me it is so interesting. Did you know that the Saguaro Cacti has to be around 75 years old before it puts out an arm. I love to hear the coyotes sing at night. All in all I love this area more because it is not that cold but it has a lot to see if your interested in finding beauty in strange places. I guess I have not found an area I don't like whether it is north or south.
Hi Barb ... I just was early retired myself after 34 years. I to want to find "happy coworkers in an outdoor environment" ... very well put. I am curious how long it took for you to be notified regarding your Mt. Rushmore job? I have applied to many places recently but I think it has not been long enough to expect any sort of replies. With so many folks looking for work right now I kinda think it is like winning the lottery if you happen to get a job offer. Have fun in South Dakota!
Barb, I completed my contract on Oct 15. I enjoyed working at Mt. Rushmore so much that I tried to get them to let me stay for the winter. But to no avail. But I am ready to go back next Spring. Love that area. Paulette Rooney is the HR person and she is great. I am now back in Southwest Missouri and looking for another job. But if I don't find one I won't cry. Hope to me you up there next summer. I am looking forward to it.
Hi Barb....I applied for several jobs in different areas a couple of months ago, but I still havnet really heard anything yet. I havnt been on here in awhile, but going to apply for more and do some searches again. I really want to do this ! I had a friend go to Alaska about 3 years ago and LOVED IT!! Keep in touch ! Were close!!!!
Barb, I have had a blast this whole summer. I have met so many new friends and enjoyed the company of fellow employees. I have just heard today that the winter job at Death Valley will be offering me a position. and then come back up to Mt. Rushmore for next summer. Now that is a plan if I ever heard one. Glad I have had the chance to do all this.
