For the last 6 seasons I was House Mother to 35 college age kids in a 125 yr old structure that also housed bats and Ghosts :) I had my own living space, but was on call 24/7 and worked 40 hrs per wk. But, being able to live and work on an island was worth lack of a good nights sleep.
Thank you so much Richard for your advise. I will be checking out Yellowstone for sure. I know that the pay isn't much at most of these places and housing can get pricey if you take into account what you are being paid. So I have some time to do some much needed research. Thank you again, Ellen
Hi there, thank you for contacting me :) I am interested in doing seasonal work, never have before, and I'm a "senior citizen". I live in California and where do you think a good place for a "young" old lady would be? I just don't know because the pictures that I see on Coolworks all look like young people and so I'm not sure if this is for me even tho I've read that Older and Bolder go to all these places. Anyway any help or advice you can give me would really help. Thank you, Ellen
Hey there! Just realized my last reply may not have gotten back to you. I apologize.I dont get on the net much cause of my poor signal. Anyway....
Thanks for all the great info! Can't wait to put it to good use.
We just spoke to Violet last night and we will be arriving on April 1st. Do orientation on the 2nd then Warren will have interpretive training on the 3rd. I'll be checking out the area.
I have a question. We are very poor bike riders. Are there flat areas where we would be able to ride? Don't want to haul them if not. I know you are an avid rider so let me know what you think. Thanks!
Look forward to seeing you again (and working with you so to speak)!
That would be great! We are so excited and already making plans. I also have a niece that's a ranger at RMNP and a couple of cousins in Denver. I used to live in Manitou Springs and we want to go to the dwellings there. Will be a busy summer!
Hey....we got hired at Mesa! Warren hasn't officially had an interview but my boss assured me if he didn't get the driving position he applied for she would hire him. I will be at Morefield Campground as a camp host/sales person. Can't wait!
I've wanted to work on a fishing boat in Alaska forever. I've just never had the means to get out there and ask around which I have read is your best bet at getting hired. As of now I am ready to pull the trigger on anything that provides room and board. I see that you a park ranger, thats sounds awesome. I have tons of experience landscaping and doing tree work and don't shy away from a hard days work. If there is any place for me at a park I'd love to apply. Let me know!!
Due to the milage on my body and my wife has blood flow problems we can not work where it is cold. Thanks anyway. Would like to talk to him anyway might be able to put me in contact with other sites. Could do Yellowstone during season that is about the best I can do for cold.
