Aahh that sounds wonderful. I have yet to get up to Wyoming or anywhere around there. I am really hoping to get a job up there this summer. Do you have any tips on the best way to apply to catch their attention. I unfortunately do not have much working experience but I am an extremely hard worker and have a great attitude SO I GOT THAT GOING FOR ME :D. Also, I was wondering what you did for transportation. Do you suggest bring your own car up there or is it not necessary. WHAOOO...thanks for the comment by the way it was so helpful in getting my search further along its always nice to here from someone that has been there and knows how things run. -Julietta May

Hey I've been trying to get into the Hilton since I came to Anchorage on Sep 23rd, they have offered several positions on Craigslist; however, I cant seem to get the door open there for either an interview or even a call, Any suggestions?

I was working without a work visa, under the table is really the only kind of job you can do without a work visa, and those are tough to get if you are not teaching english, or get hired by a big company that offers work visas. It was my significant other's business.

Hi Scott, Working on ships is pretty cool. You see a lot of stuff and do even more. I've been working shipboard for a total of 14 months. It's intense! We can trade though...I want to do bartending or teach english...what do you think?

Thanks! yeah I applied figuring I'd have a shot at next summer. I was planning on going into my first semester of college, but then got the call about the job at yellowstone and started debating. Im just worried that if I don't take it now, I won't ever get offered again...but thanks again for your advice.

Thanks Scott. I'm good with all of your advice--it speaks to me and of me. I majored in cultural anthropology and was married for 17 years to a wonderful guy from Pakistan, so the tolerance is probably more than covered. LOL! I'm fairly used to an austere life, as well since I got to experience being a single mom for most of the child raising years. I worked for more than 10 years in fine dining F&B as a waitress and management "BTB" (Before The Baby). I know F&B isn't easy, but I fear retail will work my last nerve. I'm planning to get a passenger endorsement on my driver's license and then have the option to wrangle a driver's job if I can't handle an F&B spot. I know that steady split shifts would probably do me in. Truth be told, though, if I can just get over this awful "empty nest" syndrome, I'll be good to go. What an amazingly cruel fact of life THAT is! May you never have to experience it! I'm meeting with Richard "Aggie71" and, hopefully, others at Lake on Thursday. Then I'm off to the Tetons for a couple of days. Scott--you're the best and I thank you for your advice. I'll stay in touch and continue to draw courage while following your adventures! Maybe I'll see you in Alaska! Nancy

Hi Scott,

I've been following your posts and I'm wondering what your plans are in Juneau? I admire your fearlessness! I have a memory of that same spirit but it was long ago...I wonder and hope it can be rekindled? I suppose I won't know until I try. My son is soon to be 25 and when he goes his way, as he should, I hope to have the courage to strip down to minimal possessions (as you have) and embark on a new adventure--sometime in the next 6 months. I'm off to Yellowstone this Sunday to visit Richard and some of the others. I have Alaska as one of my "must be places" and my heart will always go first toward the non-corporate opportunities. Any advice? Nancy

Scott - Sorry to have missed you, but I wasn't in town anyhow. How's Juneau?! : ) Glad you made it safely up there back in the wonderful state of AH-laska.

Hey Scott,

What's your travel itinerary? Are you going through Seattle? Bellingham?

It would be fun to find you somewhere. : )

Great photos!
