Yes I've made it and it's so f-ing FABULOUS!!!!! You are gonna love it here! And your room is gonna be right next door to mine, we're gonna be neighbors :) See you when you get here!
Hey there! I will be leaving here (Tahoe area) on May 15..I have to be to work by May 20 at Summit Lake Lodge (about 20 miles from Gwin's) Anyhow, I've been talking to a few others at Gwin's...if anything, I can let you know when we will be doing some climbing....I'm sure you can borrow a harness of someone not climbing/belaying. And if you like it enough, harnesses are about $50 at REI in Anchorage. Shoes...eh, to each his own! We've been known to climb barefoot!
haha im not a month ahead i forgot there is no 31st of april though, haha. i will tell you all about it its supposed to be in like the 50's when i get there, no biggie i guess since its 50 in akron
when do you head out again? i know i am so stoked and i have 2 weeks now. its so crazy that in two weeks from now ill be at akron/canton getting ready to fly out!!!!
Very good, very good indeed. Lots of work going on here at the lodge to get ready for the summer. Been going out in the evenings to various places around the area, went up to see your place up close the other night. Smaller than I would have thought, but it looks really nice. You are going to be a lot closer to "town" than I. Stuff is really expensive here, beer is all around 11 bucks a six pack even for crappy beer. Cigarettes are 7 dollars a pack if you smoke. But the town and locals are all laid back and very nice. Going to be a great time this summer. Hope your planning is going well, and see you soon!
sorry for my delayed response, but........you are definitely welcome aboard my bus/van/truck/whatever gigantic vehicle I'll be drivin'.......anytime! I have so much school stuff to do it's disgusting, but the fact that I'll be living in Alaska in 3 weeks makes me super excited!!!
im going to be working at Aramark's McKinley Village lodge as a management intern. i am considering taking a semester off to stay up there for the whole season. when are you flying out?
Hey Kristen!
I just talked to Angel and she said you wanted to talk to someone about living in Alaska. I have been working at KPL the past 3 summers and have loved it more and more every year.. I almost stayed in Spokane this summer, but decided to go back for one more year. Feel free to write me back on this, or e-mail me at casilyn_d@hotmail.com When are you headed up?
I've been to AK once before.....and even visited the kenai peninsula! It was amazing. I can't believe I'm gonna have the opp to live there for so long.......pretty awesome! I'm going to work at KPL as a tour desk person..........I'm also going to drive the tourists to their various activities (so I am getting my commercial drivers license when I get to AK..pretty crazy!) I saw that you'll be a server.......that'll be awesome! You're gonna make bank with all those wealthy tourists! M :)
Just the basics. I'm getting rid of all of my furniture and reducing my life to a few boxes that can be sent up. It's almost cheaper to buy new stuff once you're here than to ship it up!! Crazy huh?!
Oh...I am UBER excited!!! I leave on May 9th. It feels like forever away but time will fly and I will have accomplished nothing here that I need to!!!! Are you planning on going back to Ohio once the season is over or staying in AK? I'm planning on moving up to Anchorage once it's over and getting a job through the winter in the "BIG" city!!
Hey Kristen- I heard you were headed up to KPL and wanted to extend a quick "HELLO"! I will bartending up there, and can't wait to meet all of the new people!
Thats great! Glad to have another CoolWorks member in the area! we will all have to get together sometime and go hang out. I leave next week, so I will go take some pictures of where yo are going and put'em on here for you to check out.
