Hi Leslie !! I wrote to you last year. Was wondering how your summer job went. Do you plan on going anywhere this summer. Just wanted to hear about your experiences and comments.
Leslie, hi, this is Becky again--can you tell me about your accomodations? Do you have a private room or are you sharing? Does the company try to fit employees with age appropriate individuals? Once you applied, how much time did the company give you to accept the job? Have you been to Montana before?
That's great. What a "vacation". I just naturally assumed that you were near Yellowstone but maybe you are at Glacier...which is also very beautiful. What dude ranch are you working at and how is it so far???
Glad that you are enjoying it. There is so much wildlife to see. Make sure you get into Yellowstone. Try to be in the Lamar Valley either at dawn or dusk and you might get a chance to see the Yellowstone Wolves. They are just awesome. My daugher and I saw a pack of 15 wolves this past January and they were very entertaining. Just ask a ranger where to go or anyone else and they will tell you. I wish I were there right now and am sorry that I missed my opportunity this year. Keep me posted on you experiences. How long will you be in Montana????
Hi Terry, I agree with your husband if its what you want go for it. I am loving Montana. It is beautiful and the people are wonderful. I hope you find something fun and fulfilling. Retirement is just one more beginning. good luck. I am looking out my window while writing this an there is a hummingbird hovering and looking in at me.
Hi Leslie,
I am a new member of "Older and Bolder". I did have a prospect of working in Yellowstone this summer but some things that happened at work prevented me from doing so. I am now sorry that I let those things interfere with my plans. I go to Yellowstone sometimes twice a year, in fact, will be there in Sept. for a week with my friend and again in late January for two weeks with my daughter. I plan a early retirement in January and then to go work in Yellowstone next summer. Spoken to my husband about it and he said to go for it if that's what I want. Would like to hear of your experiences in Montana....the place I love the most.
Hey Becky, I am busy but there is always time for friendship. I chose housekeeping because it is easy and something I am good at. I've been doing it in one form or another most of my life. I chose to come to this ranch instead of one of the parks as it was the first one offered and seemed to fit. It isn't only a dude ranch it is also a ranch on which programs are held which seemed interesting to me. Some Yoga programs, Meditation programs, not to mention family vacations, and horseback riding. I may do one of the parks next year as I would really like that experience as well. Good luck on your search. Leslie
Hi Leslie, it's Becky writing to you. I'm wondering how you are doing? I am sure you are busy these days but I would greatly appreciate you keeping me advised as to how you like your job. Like I previously may have indicated, I want to get a job at one of the national parks in the future but I would like to keep in touch with the Older and Boulder group to make sure this experience is worthwhile. I would like to start applying in January for a job in let's say, July of next year--does that sound feasible?
Why did you select housekeeping as a job? I have been in an office for over 40 years so I suspect the adjustment to something else might be difficult. However, I am in excellent health and everyone that meets me think I am much younger than the number of years I really have behind me!!! I love to hike and be outdoors so I am looking more toward Byrce or Zion to start out with.
Hi Becky I am in Montana working at a guest/dude ranch. I am doing housekeeping and I love it. I have been horse back riding (new to me) and explored a cave (also new for me) So I would recommend doing this to anyone who wants a little adventure and to see the USA. THe work is hard but fun sometimes as well. Leslie
Hi Leslie, just wondering how you are doing? If I recollect correctly, you are working at one of the parks, is that right? If so, pls. let me know how you are doing as I want to be totally prepared if I elect to join the ranks of the "older & bolder" group.
Hi Leslie, I hope to be in your shoes maybe by next year. Currently still working but met a retired lady in Olympic National Park just last week who is also a seasonal work (starting her 4th year). She gave me the websit so now I am most excited of possibly do the same in the near future. Pls. keep me advised on your progress as I'd like to know how you do this season--this will keep me encouraged. Good luck and I hope you keep corresponding and that you meet a great group of "older & bolder" folks.
I think I left you a message in response, a few secs ago. I hit comment. Each day brings a new button to press. Last night I texted for the first time on my hubby's phone...not my bag but it was cool.
Hi Leslie, i will be in Helena this fri-sun. Would love to meet with you so call my cell and leave a message and I'll see how things are going at the graduation festivities. love, margee 406-531-0204 I leave for glacier next wed.
Hi Leslie, I am glad to hear from you! I would love to meet you for coffee if you are near my area. Since I am the same age as you, I am interested in what you think of doing this kind of work and travel. Sounds exciting. Happy sighseeing and travel! Best Wishes, Lee
Hi Rita I'm also new and 63 years young it didn't stop me from getting a job. What kind of work are you going to do in Wyoming? When do you need to be in Wyoming? I don't know what anyone else has experienced. Anyone out there had a age related problems getting a job?
Hi Leslie, I wish you much success and fun! I am your age, and I have read "Cool Works" for a long time. I plan to take the challenge before long, so I would like to hear from you to know how it works for you.
Best Wishes, Lee
