Hey there, what part of AK are you going to be working at? I will be at McKinley Chalets its my first time working out there as well. What would you be doing?

Hey Susan,
Sorry I just got your message...yes! I have worked in Alaska in Denali (actually with Angel... hey Angel!), and I enjoyed every day! I feel in love with Alaska, but I can't go back this summer. I haven't been anywhere else yet because of school, but I plan to in the next few summers. I would definitely recommend going to DNP!

Alaska huh? Well, there are a lot of different things out there for you I'm sure. Sell your house, your car, and everything. Just move there. ;-)

Okay so ask yourself a few questions first. Like: Do I want to work in/out doors? If indoors, do I want to be waiting tables or something customer service/retail? Will I have enough days off a week to enjoy a nature hike/adventure?
If outdoors: Am I comfortable enough to talk in front of a large group of people. Can I make people laugh and tell funny stories? Do I want a social/guide job, or maybe one where I'll be driving? Ask yourself questions like that before applying somewhere and regretting the job later.

From there just apply online. If you have a resume then e-mail it to as many places as you can, even if it's not in your top 10. Fill out job Apps to the places that you want to work in your top 10. You're fishing, so throw in as many lines as you can. Then see who bites. Remember you're presenting/selling yourself.

Most outdoor jobs require CPR/First Aid, and want someone with good people skills. On you job App or Resume make sure you sell yourself on being Certified in CPR/FirstAid. Even if you're not right now, it's only $25-35 a class via Red Cross, and you get your card the same day. Call them and find out when you can attend a class, usually weekly. Your local fire department/EMS might have them too. Some jobs will train you there, but it can be more money. Most jobs want you to have it already.

Make sure you have good references. Someone who will really talk you up. Jobs will give up on someone if they can't reach your reference. With my experience they only call the top most number, so make sure that's your best one.

Apply now! Not in a few months. When applying for jobs next year in 09', start late 08'

I hope this helps.

Hey there Susan, there are definatley a lot af great seasonal jobs out there and this is for sure the place to find them. I Have only worked at a couple of guest ranches one in Idaho, and I'm here in AZ for my second winter. If you like the cold weather there are a lot of ski resorts/lodges hiring. Good luck to you.
