Cruise West has recruiting sessions scheduled every spring. I suggest going to one. I've talked to
some of the Cruise West and Linblad crewmembers while the small ships were in Port, and universally, they work very long hours usually 7 days a week with a few hours off during the weekly turnaround day. I got about halfway through the application process and decided it way not for me.
I value my time off. It might be OK with you.

The impression I get is that Linblad is hard to get hired with (depending on your job) and they didn't pay well for the job i was interested in. I spoke with HR earlier this year to get the pay info.

Most cruise ships will require you to work either three months on with a month off or four months on with two months off.... Cruise West is a great company - they bought out the "Queens" (Delta, Mississippi and American) that run the Mississippi River. You will be working almost twleve hours a day with few hours off depending on what job you choose. You might want to know that tips are pooled unless you are given a direct tip. Housing isn't glamorous either and can be cramped.

I was the HR Officer on the Delta Queen and the Mississippi Queen and had a blast but I only had to work six weeks and then I was off for two weeks with pay.

If you are interested in travel and waking up in a different place every day, give it a try. It will be fun!

Thanx for the info guys. Yea I've worked on a small cruise ship before as steward and deckhand and found a lot of time in between I guess thats what I'm most concerned of. I worked on the delta queen for one week i was bartending 2-2 everyday so it was hard to find time in between to explore and the housing was pretty bad. NCLA was good but their company is going down in the HI islands. I know I have to work hard but I want to ensure that I'll have time to play and explore.
