nicks right. it is paid, and it is for what field you are trying to follow into. im going for an associates in hosp& tourism mngmt and my ba in parks and rec. so seasonal internships at a national park is a huge huge perk and advantage. the jobs that you can get varies on what you are looking for.

The internships are paid, and they are for us students going into hospitality management. I also will be out there this summer with Jake as an intern. I did an internship in Denali NP and I can't wait to see what ONP has in hand for me!!!

Jacob: Just what does an internship entail? Is it an unpaid position? What job will you have? I'm just wondering since most of these jobs are not "brain surgery" as they say ;)

Sara you are right about the drama from the past season. I worked there and left after being assaulted in my sleep by a drunken co worker. Another guy got fired for running around with a knife (that was after I left) and before I left on his first night he was crawling on the rooftops being delusional. On top of that one of the biggest assholes got drunk so much he hardly ever made it to work and got his tooth knocked out one night. It was fucking ridiculous. It was alcohol poisening waiting to happen. It was like 3 Boneheads met up in the woods and convinced everyone else that being completely fucked up and not respecting your job or co workers was the thing to do for the summer. Most of the staff left because it was so crazy. Not to mention all the *relationship* drama ooooh man, I won't get into that because it's peoples personal stories but OMG I have done Seasonal work since I was 18 (8 years) and I drove out of there feeling like I was running for my life and never wanting to work seasonal again.

Of course now I have the total itch and I am looking into some places. I have actually recommended Sol Duc to a few people because that one bad season doesn't ruin the bunch. My old supervisor will be the employee chef and I loved her so much I came back after I left 6 hours to deliver her some roses. She is a DOLL. The people who run it have been there 34 years and met there had there children in the town they basically love the place like a family member. It is SO beautiful there.

The super perk of going into the spas anytime of night is SO LUXURIOUS you will understand when you get there.
Some of us staff had a spot in the woods called the *invisible spot* we built up rocks into structures like couches/lounger/fire pit/stairs It was amazing I was led out there and we only led people out who could maintain it's harmony. We did *rock therapy* by just being AWAY from the drama and taking out the frustration in moving some rocks around.
I met some people who truly changed my life. When I was sexually assaulted I didn't know who to turn to, after a couple weeks I realized I could trust my manager and my roommate. I will never forget them for being my shoulder to cry on, both a mother and a sister to me while I had to go through one of the hardest points of my life. Even though something bad happend to me it is shadowed by the friendship I have with these two women.

Anyways.... That's my take on Sol Duc. I may come up to visit Lee this summer. The hike to Sol Suc Falls is a MUST!

Oh and if anyone wants to know the employee housing is insane. You may share a room with 5 people, it may be ok when it's not so drama filled but having people bang around drunk til 4am everynight is crazy.

Oh and then there was the lady that came into the dorms and the rangers had to put her in a mental hospital hahahahaha her name was Luna.

Also my recommendations if you want ot pick a job there. Pool Booth does practically nothing and you can bring your lap top and go on it while you have down time (which is most of the time) Life guards get paid the most and do NOTHING they seriously sit there and BS the whole day. Housekeeping is the hardest job, avoid it. Front Desk is pretty easy going but you are front and center so no slacking. If you are a Dishwasher do them all a favor and bust ass don't be lazy.

well to tell you the truth i really enjoyed working with Sol Duc...I have only worked at Lake Quinault for a short while and during that time...i was put in housing...ALONE in a big dorm style house...there is only one meal provided during your work shift...the nearest store is across the street but it is short supplied when it comes to things you need and it is very expensive....kinda loney out there on my own :( just my opinion!

Hey Sara, If you had your choice, which of the 3 would you prefer to work at? I'm curious. Jim

Well I applied to Sol Duc this month as well...I have previously worked there though so I'm not sure if that is an advantage or not! It wont hurt to call the HR director of the resort you have applied...just to see where you kind of stand. Which resort did you apply for? There are several different resorts in that area that it wouldn't hurt to apply to the others...like Sol Duc, Kalaloch, and Lake Quinault! Let me know how it goes!!

Hi Sara,
I was also wondering a few things about ONP. I applied the beginning of January...is that too late? If not, how long does it usually take to get an answer back? Do you think I should apply other places also as back ups? Sorry about all the questions, im just very new at this! Thanks!
