Profile Information

The World
Where have you lived and worked?
I have lived in Switzerland and worked doing Massage at a retreat, Alaska both Denali and Sitka. In Denali I worked at Mckinley Village as the Massage Therapist and in Sitka where I had a permanent job as an Avian Keeper at Alaska Raptor Center. I have worked in Montana at Big Sky resort, which was my least favorite of all. Not only the severe cold, yet the corporation was horrible and had very poor integrity. I have worked in Glacier National Park in Montana as the Concierge in summer 2006 at Many Glacier. Following Montana I retreated to the Big Island of Hawaii where I did a work trade on an Organic Coffee Farm. From there I moved to Washington and worked at Doe Bay Resort and Retreat on the southeast end of Orcas Island. I took a break from seasonal work for almost three years, then due to slow economical resources especially in the San Juan Islands I worked at Mt. Rainier National Park in Paradise. I have also worked in the Islands as a Marine Naturalist and have done work as a Fish ID Technician at the Salmon Hatchery on Orcas Island as well.
About Me:
I love to travel, read both novels and biographies. I am grateful for a multitude of incredible experiences. I am a Professional Massage Therapist, Certified Marine Naturalist, Professional Animal Care. I love the wild, nature and beauty in everything. I love photography, art and hiking. I love to dance and live my life by following my heart.
Last Seasonal Job:
Mount Rainier National Park, Gift Shop Retail, Paradise Inn, currently Supervisor Customer Service Kenai Fjords Tours in Seward Alaska
Favorite Seasonal Job:
Glacier National Park, Concierge, Many Glacier Hotel, Massage Therapist, Denali National Park (Mckinley Village Lodge)
Dream Job:
Travel Writer and Naturalist in the South Pacific and New Zealand

Wow I have not written a blog here in Ion's. Literally, guess I have been preoccupied... With a short update here on my whereabouts.  After my rather damp, yet filling summer last season in Whittier

Wow we have been so blessed with incredible weather here in Whittier the last few days, unbelievable... hello I thought I was in Alaska and not California.. all kidding, what a blessing, as living in a Northern Temperate rainforest where it rains 80% of the time, the last few days have peaked @ around 70... pushing that a bit, beautiful blue skies with a few patchy clouds.. hey maybe I should be a weather right...

Is Whittier Prettier or Shi.......ttier.????

Well back with Ciri Alaska Tourism for my second season in a row, first time in my seasonal career I have repeated with the same company.  Last summer I spent a rainy, yet enjoyable summer in Seward with KFT, so this year I braved it, took my chances and switched to our other location in beautiful???? funkadelic Whittier Alaska.  Needless to say the quote be careful…

Hi Dawna!  Looks like I get to be a NPS Park Ranger in Alaska this summer.  I'll be starting at Denali National Park in late April.  I am very excited about finally getting up there.  Sounds like I'm going to miss you up there .... have a good summer and stay in touch.  I will definitely get down to Seward and take one of those boat tours!   Ranger Rich

I Need HELP!  I'm trying to create a blog with embedded photos and can't figure out how to do it in visual mode.  Do I have to do this in HTML mode for it to work?  Really confused ....  Richard

Hi Dawna!  Hope your summer is going well .... I'm having fun being a Park Ranger, even though I'm not in Alaska :-)  I think Whittier must be a "step down" from Seward.  You post some of the greatest pics regardless where you are!  We'll cross paths one of these years :-)   Take Care ..... Richard

Hi Dawna!  Just got a note from Geri Nipp ... wants me to contact her after I return to the USA from New Zealand on January 23.   If you know Geri, please put in a good word for me between now and then.   Thanks!  Hope you are doing well :-)  Wife and I are having a great time in New Zealand!

Dawna, Could you elaborate on the smaller companies that you worked for? They sound like they may try alittle harder to please the employees.
Thanks, Becky

Thanks for the great pictures and posts Dawna ... you have got me convinced regarding Seward. Next challenge will be to snag a job offer for next summer. Time will tell whether I get there or not.

Hi Dawna ... hope your summer is shaping up to be everything you expected! One question I have been wanting to ask you .... how did you go about arranging for a place to stay in Seward? Did you make living arrangements after you got the job or before? How difficult is it to find housing for seasonal employees in that part of Alaska?
