I was so lucky to hop on one of our company planes and take the hour flight down to fairbanks today. I needed to get some things in town and God blessed me with a awesome day !! I checked into the go north hostel which is very nice. I rented a bike planning to ride to wal mart to get everything I needed. I stopped at the thrift store and found some hiking boots that are still in good conditon for only $10 that saves me at least $70!! I also found a nice pair of columbia light weight pants that… Continue

My summer home ~ Coldfoot, Alaska

Posted on May 18, 2009 at 11:18pm 4 Comments

I will be spending my summer here in Coldfoot, Alaska just 60 miles north of the arctic cirlce. This being said many people would think very cold. I am happy to report that the weather here is not so bad. The Brooks mountain range protects us from the cold arctic winds. This area is actually considered desert climate in the summer with many sunny days and very little rain. I will be enjoying most days in the 70's with night getting down to 50's or mid 40's . Right now I am in whats called crew… Continue

The last sunrise

Posted on May 10, 2009 at 8:27am 0 Comments

I left Wisconsin to get on my flight to Alaska I was blessed with a beautifull sunrise. I enjoyed it thinking it will be my last "Wisconsin" sunrise for a while, not realizing that would be my last sunrise for the summer. When I arrived in Fairbanks I was suprised to see the sun still up at midnight. Now at coldfoot I am further north and see the sun fairly bright at 2am. On Junes 21st the sun will never touch the horizon and stay up in the sky. Every… Continue

Summer adventure begins...

Posted on May 7, 2009 at 2:58pm 6 Comments

Its been a long journey, begining in January I started my search for summer employment. I found a strong calling to go to Alaska and felt it could be a life changing expierence. After many applications and some interviews I acctecpted a job at Coldfoot Camp located 60 miles north of the artic circle. Im sure the first thing that comes to mind is brrrrr, but I look forward to enjoying summer temps in the 60's and 70's and very long sunny days. Yesterday at 4am I awoke after really not getting… Continue

Hi Dominic,

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska.  I'm originally from Racine, Wisconsin.  I was searching for people who were planning to drive to Alaska from Wi because I'm looking to have a box brought up.  If you have any room, I'd be happy to pay you for the space in your vehicle.  I can be reached here at riverbenthic @ yahoo dot com.  Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.   -Erik

Thank you Dominic :) I am doing a little more research. I am so tired of the corporate world and being behind a desk. Great pay but I never see any of it because of so many taxes being withheld. I am ready to invest my time into something worth doing for the world and for myself. Maybe we will meet some day in the future! I will keep you updated if i get hired anywhere. I am really open to going anywhere. Have any suggestions?
