becky I work for Kenai Fjords Tours in Seward. They are owned by Ciri.corp, a Native alaskan Corp. We are a Cruise tour company with seven wildlife trips a day. I think there are probably 50 employees, not sure. It is not a national park concession. Housing is in apts, or the bunkhouse with a community kitchen we buy our own food. Rent is low and the salary is pretty good, 11-12 an hour fo rmost positions based on experience. I am a supervisor. Minus the gray weather as we are in a temperate rainforest, I like it here. Seward is a small town of 3,000 about. The company employees, deckhands, customer service, accounting and a small retail store.
I just sent in the application on the Xanterra web site. The reason Sept.1 is a problem is that the training for the short season starts 8/11. I doubt they would want to do a special session for 1 or 2 people. The lodges in Yellowstone start closing in September and even Old Faithful closes mid-Oct. The only one open year round is Snow Lodge. You might try for something there but if it were me, I would go south. Have you tried the Outer Banks?
