Living & Working in Great Places
Thanks for being here! The six of us at CoolWorks welcome you and wish you success in finding your Jobs in Great Places®!
Here I am in Las Vegas! Actually, staying with my brother and sister-in-law in Henderson, Nevada, but close enough for me! Have had a great time since I arrived nearly a month ago, and have about 9 days left before I have to head north. I've been watching the weather up Yellowstone way and they've been getting a lot of snow still in the Mammoth area, so there's that to look forward to, lol. I'll be glad to get up there and unpack the motorcycle from the trailer and get it ready for riding…Continue
Two more days and I'm done with my Call Center job. It's been a long two weeks since I gave my notice. I'll spend next week taking care of a lot of business locally -- get my car inspected, maybe a tire rotation and get those taxes done finally. I may need a few shopping trips to pick up a mini fridge and another pair of sturdy shoes.
I don't have to be in Gardiner until May 1st, but I'm leaving Boston on April 7th because I have a road trip planned before I get to Yellowstone!
I have received an email telling me that I start work on 4/2/2014 at the Desert View Snack Bar @GCSR. Now I have worked at GCSR before, but this Desert View area is 26 miles East of the village where most guests visit. 26 miles away from the post office, library and everything else. There is NO free shuttle that travels out to the watchtower so it's a very isolated spot.
Isolation can be a good thing. Hopefully it means less drama from coworkers & guests. I should have lots of…Continue

I'm driving from Oregon to Homer in late March/early April, and am looking for riders to share driving and gas. Please email if interested.

Does anyone know of or heard of any hotel/motel, cabins, campgrounds in the SW Wyoming or Northern Colorado area needing a Couples Management team to do grounds keeping, maintenance, laundry, and cleaning of their property? I know im throwing a needle into a haystack here... but i tried WorkingCouples.com and came up empty handed due to email addresses that weren't legit and wondered if anyone here could help me. Please leave me a message in my inbox or email me at…Continue

This winter season I decided to stay near home for a few personal reasons. I am really looking forward to getting back into the groove of things.
I'm staying in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and picked up a local job at a Best Western Premier hotel in town. I'll go up to De Pere (in the Green Bay metro area) for a couple of days in early May to visit my mother. On May 4 I start the long bus ride. I have transfers in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Memphis. I have stops of half an hour or longer…Continue

As I prepare for my season working as an ATV guide in Denali National Park, I am getting my travel arrangements aka airline tickets lined up, getting my packing list for things I will be bringing finalized (2 suitcase maximum), mentally preparing for a summer adventure in Denali, and anxiously waiting for my arrival and first day I can start meeting guests and exploring Denali on ATV's. What are you doing to prepare as your final countdown to your summer of 2014 approaches? Care to share any…Continue
I called Xanterra last week to let them know I'm accepting the Resident Coordinator position at Lake and yesterday I sent the hiring package to them, including my reference letter, via Priority Mail so I'd have the tracking. I need to start thinking about when I'm going to quit my current job. I'd love to leave at the end of March, but mid April may make more financial sense. I still have some bills to pay down before I slash my income in half!
If anyone has any experience working as…Continue

thinking about a job in housekeeping with Princess Mt Mckinley lodge. Anyone worked there that can provide info about the pros and/or cons? I will be flying there and won't have a car.
Spending a little time in Eminence, Missouri. It is a small town in the Ozarks and it is a peaceful, sleepy little town that gets a lot of tourist traffic in the summer. Luckily for me, it is not summer, lol.
I got everything moved into storage, cleaned up my place to turn in the keys, loaded my trailer, and left the Houston area for a while. A long while, I hope. Went to Shreveport to see two of my kiddos and spend a couple of days there, then headed north to Missouri. Since I'm…Continue
Hey CoolWorks Fam,
32 applications, five different states, 46 emails, 15 interviews, 12 offers, and one very hard decision to make. When applying for seasonal jobs, especially in the summer, everyone has their first choice of position and location, but if you are anything like me when you get multiple National Park offers, it is extremely hard to decide.
So some things to remember when deciding:
What are the perks? Now of course, being able to live and work in an…Continue
I've put in an application, took the typing test and passed, and gone through a phone interview after which I was hired.
I guess that was step one in a nutshell, lol. I shall be in the reservations office at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park for the 2014 season.
Now starts step two. The packers are due here on Wednesday, the movers on Thursday. Putting everything except for a few little things into storage and hitting the road. My Jeep Wrangler, Honda Goldwing,…Continue
It is funny to think that for the past several years, I have heard the call of migration of seasonal work when I've been sitting at my desk watching the ducks and gees flying overhead. Now, I can join for the coming year and I find my heart is singing with excitement. Where to go? what to choose? should I go back into desk sitting, or drive a big old coach, or choose something different? I think I'm just happy to know that when people start heading out to the various places, I will be…Continue
Well I've been following my instincts by applying for job with the Federal Government again. I was once told that if you did not have a degree, the chances of being hired as a park ranger were almost nill. Today, I received my 10th referral for a position as a seasonal ranger and this time at Mesa Verde... now if they will only hurry up and hire me.... lol.
It is funny the things that first pop into your mind about leaving the comforts of home for a summer or winter season. I would say for most it is things like: "Will there be wi-fi in the employee house?" (got to Skype mom back at home), "What is cell phone coverage like in West Glacier?" (seriously call your mom, she misses you), but, I am sure that the top comforts most people don't think about (as silly as they sound): "Where is the nearest Costco?" You might laugh, but when I did a season…Continue
I am so excited to share that after a four year sabbatical from my seasonal life, I am back on the bandwagon! I have sent out applications to my favorite place to work (Glacier National Park), along with countless others, and with my fingers crossed I am hoping to be out there come May.
This time around, I will admit that the 19 year old version of myself would not…Continue
