bonfire days

I was just resting in my car by the beach yesterday reading a book on pre-historic America when I heard a knock on my window. It was a young lady and her boyfriend inviting me to join her and her boyfriend to their bonfire. Ahhh... those friendly Alaskans. It was cool. Her name was Ashley and he Matt... it turns out she has taken most of the pics on the Sheldon-Jackson college website. Beautifull places seem to produce many photographers.... and cool people. smiles to everyone... :0)

Instant classics

I saw on Yahoo today that Fox has pulled one of my new favorite shows, "Drive" from its Monday time slot. This led me to have several thoughts. First, if it weren't for 24 and its summer replacement Hell's Kitchen, I would really hate Fox. No other network produces as many original, well acted, and intriguing shows, and then cancels them a month later. As evidence I give you The Lone Gunmen, Keen Eddie, The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr., and the utterly fantastic Firefly. (If you have not…

Put Yourself On the Map

We recently added a Job Map that we're pretty proud of. Take a spin, zoom in and out, pick a state, pick a category and scope where these employers are.

I also put together a map of where folks are who are signed into My CoolWorks so far. I didn't get everyone because I wasn't sure. And I just put first names and general locations so as not to get too inappropriately personal. Using a tool called Tagzania you can manage your own location…

The Bad Beginning

First of all, no, I am not an overly negative person. I chose this blog title simply because it is my first ever, and my creativity was lacking so I stole a title from Lemony Snicket. Being my first blog, it is a beginning, and since I am a novice, it might be bad. But I hope not.

Our first seasonal employees of the 2007 season arrived this weekend at the Mt. McKinley Princess Lodge. Their arrival was met with the same stomach dropping feeling that the first 2006 employees brought me.…

I felt tired today... Finding a place to live in Juneau is like pulling teeth and the hostel allows only a five-day stay. It was discouraging and bummed me out because I there is no way I was going to stay at the homeless shelter. I'm gainfully employed.... not hopeless (that is the environment of a shelter in my opinion and once a long time ago, experience). So I bought a cheap car to at least stay dry and to store my stuff. To test the car, I drove it across the bridge to Douglas Island and… Continue

Spring Time in the Rockies

Everything feels like it's at least a month ahead of the calendar down here in Gardiner and out in the park. But we heard there was still decent snow above Cooke City so we checked it out yesterday.

Cool and overcast for starters. Just into the North Entrance at Gardiner we saw a dozen Elk, one Pronghorn Antelope and maybe 30 bison in one eyefull. Got a pretty good look at a lone wolf between Mammoth and Tower. By the time we got out towards the Lamar Valley it was starting to clear up… Continue
