Just Otterly precious fantabulous

Wow we have been so blessed with incredible weather here in Whittier the last few days, unbelievable... hello I thought I was in Alaska and not California.. all kidding, what a blessing, as living in a Northern Temperate rainforest where it rains 80% of the time, the last few days have peaked @ around 70... pushing that a bit, beautiful blue skies with a few patchy clouds.. hey maybe I should be a weather right...

More Alaska

We have been having some terrible computer service, so it's been awhile!

I've actually been working alot, but loving it so much!  I really liked working on the train!  Rode from Anchorage to Talkeetna, handed out welcome packets to the guests and talking to them about the tours, any troubles they may be having and just general information.

Getting a better handle on expediting the coaches and parking them in the lot.  Not as easy as it sounds, considering I have a lot only big…

Ketchup on Waffles, Revisited

I wrote this about 2.5 years ago, I thought I'd just revisit it.  Mainly as a reminder to myself. Some edits have been made.

I have always seen the forum questions [and the even older bulletin board from years ago] about where the best and worse places to go. Lately, I've seen many taking the vague answers rather seriously. Maybe people always have and I'm just noticing it more.

There are a few responses that are more specific, but in general it's just a like or dislike. It…

I sorta overheard yesterday about a position opening up in the library of the Park Headquarters in GCSR. The job won't be available until August 22nd. So today I asked them for an application.

Free Housing in big historical home

Custer State Park Resorts(Dont ever work for them)

This is a company I would never work for again!!!!!With my background in retail, front desk, and reservations,I was offered a dishwasher position.I accepted, because I wanted to get back in seasonal work, and was told that was all they had.Imagine my suprise when I arrived,to find out they had a number of openings in the departments that I was qualified for.A good portion of those hired before and after me had NO expeience in retail,or front desk.I was also never paid what my conract stated. When I… Continue

Ranger Rich Rants ... Volume 3

Today I'd like to talk about hiking :-)  Wow.....there are loads of places to hike around here!  I am just beginning to realize what a hiker's paradise this is in fact.  Yesterday one of my Ranger buddies and one of our interns went on a really neat hike with me up Bear Creek north of Delores Colorado.   The weather was glorious....mid 70's with a really nice, cool breeze.... and the landscape was breathtaking.   For all you out there that think "desert" when you think Mesa Verde .... ah guess… Continue

Hello from Alaska!

So, I'm a new member of coolworks. I'm currently working at Mt McKinley Chalet Gift Shop, and while I don't love it, at least I'm rounding out my resume, right?? I came up to Alaska for a myriad of reasons. To see the tallest mountain in N. America (check that off-I'm in the 30% club!), see some new wildlife, check out the glaciers, go whale-watching, flightseeing, take a dog sled ride, eat a hamburger at the Arctic Ccircle (oh, wait, wrong "arctic circle" right? :), visit Tisha's…

More AK 2011

Boy, what a difference a department can make!

I have been taking full advantage of all the opportunities Transportation has afforded me.  I went ATVing with Black Bear ATV Tours and had a blast!  I had never driven an ATV before, but it was easy as pie!  And going through the woods, looking at and learning about the foliage, watching for bear or moose, driving down to the Susitna River.  It was like taking yourself on a tour!  If you ever get up here you gotta take it!  Can't wait to…

Cooking Outdoors

I love cooking outdoors!

I have a 75 year old cast iron bean pot, love frying chicken in it, as well as chili, soups, BBQ spaghetti, just to name a few.

Grilling is also a love of mine, Ribs, Chicken, Brisket, Pork Chops, even pizza has seen my grill!

I love camping out!

My favorite seasoning is my applewood smoked black pepper, smoked paprika, and…
