Greg Seats is Back in China

World Traveling Worker, deep thinker friend and all around good-guy Greg Seats is reverting to email to update friends. Blogging attempts through the years seem to have a way of getting blocked over there. I'll post his emails up here from time to time if you all are interested.

Letter One 1 - August 29, 2010

3-day weekend

Well business was sloooow yesterday, so I was sent home early. I was already scheduled to have 3 days off (Monday-Wednesday). It's that time of year where its the "calm before the storm"....hopefully we will get busy for Labor Day weekend, otherwise someone will be getting sent home early again.

But while we are slow it is easy to get extra days off, so I'm taking the shuttle bus down to Flagstaff for a couple days and stay at the hostel there. 1 bad thing about not having a car is… Continue

I am not one of those who is usually at a loss for words, however this week I got to experience something that truly put me at a loss for words. I took a couple of extra days off from work to travel to the more western side of the Kenai Peninsula visiting Homer and Seldovia. I was extremely lucky to be able to get to go on something that everyone who travels to… Continue

All Living is Local - And I Hope to See You There

I just joined this website and am hoping to connect with people who seriously will consider creating a venture in which a team of folks choose a different location each year and go there to live and work and volunteer to help the local community (in ways the local community determine is in their best interest). I have no religious, political or economic agenda - my "dream retirement" is to "live local" with some adventure thrown in.

If this idea has some interest for you I…

looking back...and looking forward

It was the summer after my freshman year of college when my best friend and I packed up the truck and drove the 18 hours to northern Colorado to find the only ranch that had agreed to take us both. Though we'd been to the mountains a few times before, we still yelled in excitement when the Rockies first came into view around a corner outside of Raton, and could hardly keep our eyes on the road as we wound deep into mountain valleys that were just emerging from mud season. We were on our way to… Continue

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (Part 7)

During the winter season 2009-2010, I was the Head Chef at the Kay El Bar Guest Ranch in Wickenburg, Arizona. This was my third season at the ranch, but first in the position. This entry is a little tough to put into words. It was a rough season, so I guess that should be expected.

I have also agreed to return for…

Added by Keith Larson on August 19, 2010 at 4:41pm — 3 Comments job feeds showing up on some of our state pages

If you've been searching for jobs by state, you may have noticed the job feeds. We're giving this a try for now to see how it works, and to see if it's useful to our audience, which means, you guys.

With the unemployment rate still high, what we've found is that there are more people interested in seasonal jobs. Yes, some of them do not have previous guest service…

Payday & a raise review

Payday is every other Wednesday, so last payday was 7-28-2010.

I worked 72.52 hours @ 7.73/hr

The state of NH garnishes my check for $162.88 and after Rent, all the taxes and everything gets taken out of my check. I finally got a check for $297.82.

I also finally got my yearly review and will be getting a .14 raise starting with my next paycheck...Xanterra is going back to 6-21-2010 to pay me the raise. So from now on I will get $7.87/hr. May not sound like alot…
