We've had quite an interesting week here up at Lake Yellowstone. We became surrounded by smoke from the fires, until one afternoon we couldnt even see the sun, and our blue lake appeared brown. The firefighters increased in number and efforts, sprinklers installed around location, even on top cabin roofs. Helicopters, weed cutters, and rangers were kept busy while we debated the possiblity of evacuation. Firefighters were fed at Lake Lodge breakfast and dinner, sack lunches prepared for in the…

Let me start off by saying .... Wow, what a fun summer that was! Now I feel not only "Older and Bolder" but also a bit wiser regarding seasonal employment in general, and Yellowstone in particular. I hope in this blog I can express at least some of that wisdom for the benefit of the reader.
Let's take it from the top ... trip preparation ...
* Definitely plan to bring a car. Yellowstone is just too big a place to attempt to hitchhike everywhere ya want to go. Also, other…

Hey everyone. How is everyone doing this evening? I have a favor for everyone that's a member of the blog. Can everyone reach out to their Refuse Company in your town to see what their doing for "Recycling"? This is a big concern of mine. I wish I had the money and time to contact every company to see what their doing, I'm sure some do and some do, it depends on how in depth they can be.... Like I've said before let's keep Mother Earth around for a…

There is an old joke among economists that states:
According to some
research papers recession is when your neighbor loses his job.A depression is when you lose your job.
The difference between the two terms is not very well understood for one simple reason: There is not a universally agreed upon definition. If you ask 100 different economists to define the terms recession and depression, you would get at least 100…

Today was the last day of food service at Sheep Mountain Lodge for this season. Well, technically we are offering breakfast during a short period in the morning, just open to cabin guests. Many of the summer employees have left already. College students that needed to get back to school left about three weeks ago. We peaked at 11 employees...we're at 5 now.

Last Wednesday I went on my last hike. I went with a co-worker Wendy, the…

Now that the season is winding down, and all our newly made friends are heading back to college, Europe, or Texas, we have some extra bandwidth to play with. I've gotten used to No Internet (or only Town Day internet). I mean, really, I didnt come to Yellowstone to chat online. Still, I've missed the Cool Works networking, youtubbing, general surfing and such.
Now, with just 26 days left to go, and some incredible adventures under my belt, whats next? I've been challenged and…

Last night while working too finish my program and interface for our web servers I took a break and surf the net for a while. My attention was capture by the question: “WHY 9/9/09 IS SPECIAL?” Yesterday, 9/9/09 is upon us. It doesn't mean much – it only means that all three digits enumerating the day, month, and year are all the same number.
However, you can't stop people from being superstitious; as 9/9/09 will play to that crowd– you can imagine what 6/6/06 must have done to some…

After working at Mt Rushmore for only two months I'm ready to go back to work and stay in the interesting work environment. Some days it was just a job, most days it was fun and I so enjoyed talking with the tourists on vacation. Did I know I was going to miss all those people I had met? Sheesh!!

COOL WORKS IS DOING A GREAT JOB IN FINDING JOBS FOR FOR PEOPLE AND WE SALUTE THEM FOR THIS. IT IS ALWAYS NICE TO HAVE A NICE JOB, VISIT PLACES, AND MEET NEW FRIENDS. HOWEVER, THERE ARE TIMES IN OUR LIFE WHEN WE GO THROUGH CIRCUMSTANCES THAT OVERWHELMES US WE JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. WE FEEL DISCOURAGED, WE LIKE QUITTING, STRESSED, DEPRESSED, WE FEEL SUICIDAL, WE FEEL ABANDONED, LONELY AND DEPRESSED.
THAT IS WHY I HAVE COME UP WITH THIS NEW SOCIAL NETWORK CALLED " THE…
